Just wondering if anyone knew of any companies/unions willing to pay for the OICEW (Officer In Charge of an Engineering Watch) courses? I currently hold a 3rd Assistant Engineer’s License, and have sailed up on the Great Lakes.

AMO has a program that started last year for those like you that have 3rd AE : STAR Center website - www.star-center.com
I heard Chouest has their own program.
Rumor is fairwater is paying for some classes.
Crowley used to have programs that would pay for upgrades. Rumor is Crowley West Coast will. Crowley COS ( the gulf and east coast tugs) supposedly does not anymore.
Just pay for the courses at the school that offers them soonest and get your new endorsements. Move on to a better paying position sooner, rather than later.
