Offshore Wind Farm vessels

It is quite common to not use a bow painter or stern line when launching and recovering a daughter craft.

I was quite surprised when I first saw it, but it works pretty well. Using a painter can actually make it more dangerous because it slows things down.

But to do it you need a daughter craft with a bow thruster or Volvo penta IPS like this one has, that can have a similar effect to a bow thruster.

You also need to have a highly skilled davit operator and coxwain, you can’t have davit operators who are too slow.
