Capt Joe’s May need Internet to register, update, and get started, but after that it does not need internet.
Murphy’s books. I didn’t use them but many have and enjoyed them.
Murphy’s Books are what I mostly used. It’s good to have as a resource.
UpgradeU works without internet.
Thank you everyone for the help
I use Joe’s and upgrade u. Joes is a bit clunky in that you need a laptop or computer. It’s great because it has tutorials and solutions. It also lists the books that each question was derived from. Invaluable if you would rather study the source material, and I encourage you to do so.
Upgrade u is amazing because you can take it with you on your iPhone or tablet and it comes with all the exam room references as PDFs. There are no individual question references, and no solutions.
Neither program requires the net. Check out a thread labeled “reference materials” and you can find a PDF of all the books the USCG uses for question source material. It’s been incredibly helpful for building my reference library as I study for an upgrade. Also somewhere in the 500 ton upgrade section there is a link to a blog that I found most helpful concerning the overall upgrade process.
Good luck!
Thank you very much, great info!
Murphy’s Books? I thought if you just studied those now that you would fail the tests because they redid all the questions?
The questions haven’t changed. I graduated in ‘18 and the Murphy books were spot on. Same with Lapware/UpgradeU
Mariner Advancement is pretty good. Its a thumb drive, no internet needed.
Studying (Real Studying!) is more than just memorizing. It is learning, understanding and comprehending a given subject. While @jdcavo comments will disappear from this topic, he was nonetheless spot on. If you study and know a subject, changing exam questions is of no consequence.
I never saw his reply. I do understand and respect the old ways of learning and knowing the information and being a good member of the team and being able to contribute and be worth a damn. But to be honest. Those days are gone. Its doing what it takes to just pass. Find any and all short cuts to just get the license and that is just the way it is going to be. Hell even if you look at this country USA it is all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. And it is going to get a lot worse as the years go on. Me me me me me. Fuck you me. I don’t agree with it but that is the way it is. Maybe not for all but 95%+ for sure.
