Can anyone provide me details about a 2 a/e job with Noble Drilling? I’ve been e-mailing one of their recruiters about a position and she would like me to fly down for an interview. I keep asking about financial details and she will not provide any info. I’ve been applying to all the drilling companies for about three months and they are the only ones who have shown any interest…I might have to go back shipping for AMO, which is really the last option. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
If you want to get into drilling, Noble is a good way if the doors are closed elsewhere. If you aren’t too far from Houston, you should suck it up and go for the interview although I feel that they should reimburse you for your expenses. Did you ask them if they would?
Regarding pay, Noble is about 20-25% below most of the other drilling companies and their benefits package sucks, but they are still higher that even the best AMO contract ship. Ask about being assigned to one of the ships being built in Asia right now. That way you get the 15% foreign service bonus and get to be on a new ship right off the bat. PM me if you want anymore info.
Sailing with Noble as 2nd AE you will make over $100,000 a year for 183 days of work. International work will be 28 days on/off. Gulf of Mexico work 14 days on/off. Noble is a good place to get drillship experince. The Deepwater Drillship market can best be characterized as undergoing an “Arms Race.” New drillships cost $600 to $800 million each and charter for $400,000 to $500,000 a day. By 2013 the world’s supply of Deepwater drillships will double 2007/2008 levels. Supply and Demand explains the high pay.
Thanks for the info…do they cover travel costs to and from the rig/ship? I
Noble pays 100% of your international travel costs. You are required to arrange your own travel in the Gulf of Mexico, but Noble will pay you up to $400 each way. Most other Drilling Contractors pay 100% travel in Gulf.
Does Noble pay for any marine related schooling that you do, also hotel meals and such???
If so how long do you have to be there for the schooling to kick in???

They pay, but I heard that they’re not footing the bill on any training on some of the new builds until they start turning a bit. Training pay there is $150/day, I think. Not on par with the rest of the companies, but better than nothing, or even paying for the school yourself. Training always has to be requested and approved, unless it’s company/client required training matrix classes. You have to do those first before hitting them up on upgrade courses, etc…

NO OFFENSE meant, If you spend a little time learning the english language you will be better off. Your post has MANY spelling and grammar errors in it… Might want to consider a night course at a community college, NO OFFENSE meant, you ask for help and that is my suggestion,

I would not waste my time or energy trying to find out the whys or ifs. If you are already this displeased with the company, just think how you are going to feel after a couple of years. I would just put it behind me and look forward at the next opportunity. If you have the experience you claim, you will get a job somewhere and be glad Noble did what they did.
Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger. In a somewhat related story, day one at new hire orientation for MSC an english language test was given. Those that didn’t pass were gone by lunch. (and that was a pay your own way there and back home situation). Companies like MSC or Noble etc, want to know from the start that employees can understand written and verbal directions. It’s a safety issue, and an insurance issue.
here at Helix a lot of employees quit and make the jump - an easy one - the the deepwater drilling companies. they’re hoping for better pay, mostly. word has it that of all the drilling companies these former employees go to, Noble Drilling is the “worst”. not sure why it has that moniker, but everyone says so. the pay is less than here at Helix, and I’ve heard some travel and benefit nightmares, but its all scuttlebutt.
