2 weeks ago I submitted to the NMC via their new email address a raise of grade application. Still not a peep from them regarding it being accepted, denied, lost in the inter webs, or eaten by a chupacabra.
My favorite part about emailing my application to the Hawaiian REC was that I would a reply very shortly from them that they received my application and that it looked good to them.
The email I received right after submitting stated:
“The National Maritime Center (NMC) has received your e-mail and will process it as soon as possible. Our processing times vary based on e-mail volume. Sending multiple emails will further delay processing times. We appreciate your patience.”
9/30 NMC acknowledged receipt of my upgrade application. FYI- Anchorage completed the vetting after I sent my application to the NMC applications email address.
11/7 NMC-Your application has cleared the safety and suitability vetting and is currently awaiting a professional qualification evaluation.
That email is their response saying it is received. That is not radio silence. They said your email was received…
This is an automated response that you get to let you know it was received.
You will get additional emails as it progresses through the individual departments and or emails with AI (awaiting information) requests if something is not correct or missing. This can take a few weeks at least before it gets anywhere… So I would not really hold my breath.
Check your application online using the online status checker which admittedly can be a bit glitchy. That said, if you try it and it says you are not in the system, try it again a few times (sometimes changing the browser from google to windows or the other way around) will help.
I always tell people to give it 14 business days and if it doesn’t show up on the online status checker, call the helpline phone number and wait for a human. The online phone number will try hard to redirect you to the online help checker, just keep saying no and wait for a human. They may tell you you have to wait an additional number of days but I would be persistent that they confirm it was received as it should be logged into the system within 14 business days.
Never leave a phone message, you will never get a call back.
I liked it better when everything was handled right there at the REC.
if you flunked a test you could go to new Orleans and pass, need a good checkup? go to somewhere else!! and hawaii? that’s where I got my Jr Eng. endorsement. yup, the way it was, right on the spot.
