Fair enough. Even Mike and John have said that they allow the members to moderate ourselves but that moderation must be by consensus and not by one little squeeky voice crying boo hoo. If the majority approve of a given thread and the content in it, then the tread should stand and not be deleted. If a single person goes too far and makes statements beyond an acceptable limit (based on the majority’s opinion) then they need to be called out by the majority (or speaker for the majority) and told to remove their offensive posts or retract their statements. If it turns into a bloody ugly pissing match of foul language and personal attacks then and only then should outside police intervention take place, but I say that should be a nuclear option which is taken only when things have descended to a level where any salvage of the thread is highly unlikely if not downright impossible. To just delete a thread based on one voice crying offense is going to reduce this forum to a bucket of cold oatmeal. Yes, you can survive on it, but you will cringe at each mouthful!
So I’m reviving an ANCIENT thread here I know, but there’s no category for the forum in the gCaptain section to create a new thread. The “steel hanky” needs to be applied liberally to advertising in threads that aren’t in the marketplace section. I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s annoyed by one user in particular tossing in an ad for their B&B in many of their posts.

Never know when c.captain is being sarcastic or not, but usually so, so I’ll just shrug and assume you are Scooter.
We have a Marketplace section for advertising goods and services. I’m not taking a shot just at her guys, there have been others that I’ve seen that have had the posts later removed, I’m assuming by admin, but it seems to be hit or miss as to what gets pulled. I’m just saying that maybe we need more admin for handling reports.

To be fair she appears to only be posting in her own thread. Also, while I don’t really follow her thread, the few times I’ve poked in she also seems to have some good info on job prospects in the GOM, which IMO makes it appropriate within the Maritime Employment subforum. Sure, she advertises her business, but it’s not as if she’s spamming the rest of the forum with her advertising, nor did she join up with the sole purpose of advertising, which I think is the intent of the no-advertising rules. For me, the good far outweighs any “bending” of the rules she may be engaging in.
I give… whatever guys. Y’all want people posting adverts wherever they want in the forums, fine. I was just saying there’s a place for it in the “marketplace.” I’ll keep my nose out of it. Whatever.

I agree. Better to focus on what has been posted rather then the person posting. For example “I don’t agree with what you’ve posted”'rather then “I don’t agree with you”.
If a thread spins way off topic it’s hard to determine exactly what’s at the bottom of the differences in opinion.
