I have searched high and low on the Internet and even e-mail the coast guard about help looking for schools in my location… I know a few but want to shop around for prices (pay cuts, even time, etc.). The only decently priced one I can find in my area is Fletcher but I still love 2 half hrs away from there… I live in 35 min north of Hammond, LA. Can anyone please help me.
People have discussed schools off and on here. The search function helps.
School for what?
When I do search on here about school, any thread that mentions anything about school, it pops up then you have to shuffle through tons of crap to get to a decent thread that doesn’t pertain to me… An I apologize, I’m getting my AB. Doing my RFPNW on the vessel, have PSC and AB left.

Then you need to go back to the NMC website for starters, because they have a list of approved courses and the schools which you can then go and research.
Aaaand by doing a quick search of their site, I come up with Fletcher and ECO’s schools in your neck of the woods, there’s Bluewater in Jacksonville, etc. That’s for the courses; if you want the assessments there are more schools to choose from.

Sea School in Bayou Labatre, Alabama, offers cheap room and board.
Falck safety service, Houma and numerous locations
Young Memorial in Morgan City
Houston (now owned by Falck) in New Orleans
The AB course is 5 days, it does not matter if you have to drive a few hours to the school (many of us fly thousands of miles for courses) Just get in your car and go.
I would be stoked if I lived in the gulf states, considering there are more schools, variety of classes, and most are cheaper than the schools in my neck of the woods. Like tugsailor said many of us have to fly so if you are in driving distance that’s a plus.
Thanks for the help… I didn’t know you could go to the school for ECO even if you didn’t work for them… Ill have to look into a few of them… I appreciate it fellas
Nope (added to meet the minimum number of characters)
You live in LA and you cant find a maritime school?!?!
What is north of LA? 35-40 min north of LA? If you can’t answer that question, then you should have never posted on here in the first place…
Swamps. Everyone knows that. Sorry you can’t find a school within walking distance, guess you’ll have to travel just like almost everyone else.

What is north of Louisiana? That would be Arkansas and Mississippi.
If you live in Hammond, you are 2 hours from Sea School in Bayou Labatre. Their next AB class starts on June 15th. It took me less than five minutes to find that info.
Sea School’s motto is “We hold your hand 'til it holds a license.”
What about Delgado? They’re in New Orleans East. I did my radar recert there last year. Seemed to offer quite a few classes.
Haven’t seen them… Definitely look into them… Like I said in my first post, tryin to shop around… I appreciate the straight answer without all the bullshit captrob

Google “Delgado marine”. It took me about 1 minute to determine that Delgado does not offer an AB course. They do offer BST.
Still can’t see how this guy lives in Lousy-ana and has no idea how to find the appropriate school. If he has enough sea time for the AB rating his shipmates or company should have pointed him in the right direction. He will no doubt pass the test and further the assumption that AB stands for AnyBody. As in anybody can be an AB.
Wait I didn’t do that right doesn’t c.scooter usually use all caps? I forgot to put some obscenities with a PH in there also. Dammit I don’t feel like typing al that again but I promised I would be his pointy stick proxy.
I thought you did pretty good fraq. You have to put in some images and talk about how sailors aren’t made of the same stuff they used to be as well.
I live in MS and the company ain’t worth anything, an half the people around me ain’t worth knocking in the head so can’t get any decent information… That’s why I’m getting my AB to get away from here an try to get around some knowledgeable people so I can better my learning experiences. Actually learn something other then how each capt likes the boat cleaned an how each one like the boat tied up… Everything I learn is from research an gcaptain honestly…
Last time I checked Arkansas was 35-40 minutes of LA, Mississippi is north of parts of LA too.
