MSC Chartered HOS boats in Washington State

A while back, the city council of Port Angeles, WA ok’d a permit for a bunch of 71’ Navy sub escort boats to be moored at the PA Boat Haven. Wondering if anyone knows anything about the progress of this and whether or not these vessels would replace the MSC or Coast Guard (I’m not sure which it is) chartered HOS boats that currently do the work out of Bangor. I was just curious. I’d like to get on with HOS at some point in the near future and would be kinda nice to be able to work a little closer to home. Granted escort duty isn’t really all that interesting. They get hazard pay or anything like that? Same day rate as the Gulf?

I’m not sure about your questions but I can say good luck getting on them. there’s a waiting list to get on them.

If he lives local has the bonafides and can get the security clearance he will get consideration. I’m sure there is a list of people meeting that criteria already waiting ahead of him.

No one gave shit about ANY of that in Kings Bay - LONG list of personnel waiting for the opportunity to locate here. Schedule was funky too - 42on/21off. NO THANK-YOU

42/21 and go home every night and you would turn that down?! To each their own

It was my understanding they were lookin for locals to cut down on travel costs. As far as schedule and all that I have no idea. Different division different pay different people in charge. I was just trying to give info based on my understanding.

The guys doing 42/21 were not going home every night. They are looking for people that live in the vicinity of the vessels to cut down on travel costs.

I had to give up my secret clearance end of last year. Maybe there’s a chance. Will put that on my resume and queue up.

CREW weren’t going home every night JUST the Captain.

And NO, I wouldn’t turn that down IF that were the case. A cook aboard BLACK POWDER and I were stationed together in Groton from 2004-2006 and that was my intel source in 2008. He wasn’t making great money either but then again I was making NY Money pushing oil.

Give up how? Did it just time out?

Looking out my window at them now. Last I talked to captain year ago sounded like they couldn’t even get off the boats. Me being local to port Angeles they have always interested me

I got out of the govt service. I had one with the CG and then with NOAA (not exactly sure why). They told me to do an exiting debrief and then from there I guess they do a termination of clearance. Not sure how employable a Secret clearance is. I heard that guys in the CG with TS clearances could get decent civilian positions.

Ya me too. Lived in PA for a while, but now across the sound. Wondered if they were set up for DP. Can’t say they’d really need it.

I’m retired Navy and was under the impression they are good for 5 years. If yer not using it it might go in some type of ‘suspense’ category. You got nothing to lose saying it’s good until someone tells you it’s NOT good. The Security questionnaire needs to be re-done routinely ANYWAY to remain current. I filled one out in 2004 and retired in 2006. I filled out another when I started at Kings Bay in 2010 and FULLY expect to have to fill out another by 2015.

I would think so they have bow and stern thrusters, watching them dock at Bangor it looked like it was in DP.

HOS Dominator is one of em. I was working on a navy tug the past year and we’d do subs up at NAVmag Indian Island and see the escort boats coming in. They’re armed with 25mm cannon from what I’ve been told…

Forgot to mention it, but I’ve seen HOS post contract positions on MSC vessels, last year. I think this was for these positions.

All of the vessels are DP2 just like the rest of the fleet. We only have a handful of older vessels that are not DP2. Some of these boats are being stretched and repowered to make them DP2 as we speak.

One old non DP 2 boat was sold today and the rumor is another one along with 2 tugs will be sold next week

I wonder who bought it and for what reason?
