SVENØR: “Turma Nova”, now called “Svenør”, is a state-of-the-art and advanced vessel.
(GA drawing: Damen Maaskant Shipyard)
In 2020, the Dutch shipping company Ekofish Group BV was handed over the combined trawler and purse seiner “Turma Nova” by the Dutch Damen Maaskant Shipyard. Already upon delivery, the shipping company decided that the vessel did not meet expectations and returned it to the shipyard. Since then, the vessel has been for sale, among other things with Atlantic Shipping A/S in Copenhagen. Although this is probably the most expensive vessel Fruholmen Seafood AS in Tromsø has ever invested in, they have probably got the vessel at a very good price.
According to Atlantic Shipping, the vessel is rigged for double trawling and seine. It has a maximum length of 32 meters and a width of nine metres. The main engine is a Caterpillar with an output of 1,300 horsepower, as well as three Caterpillar C18 each with an output of 465 ekW/581 kVa 50Hz generators (956 kW). Since it is diesel-electric propulsion, this gives great flexibility in how much energy is produced. The propeller, which has a diameter of 3,430 millimeters, is supplied by Dutch AMW. Bow thruster with an output of 110 kW is supplied by Astram.
“Turma Nova” is equipped with a factory supplied by Dutch AFAK Techniek BV, and has a flake ice machine and a 230 cubic meter cold room.
“Turma Nova” has four double and one single cabin.

Not at work yet, but Austral Odyssey is an impressive looking Long liner that will be packed with the latest and best of technology and equipment for sustainable and responsible fisheries in the Southern Ocean:
https://www.australfisheries.com.au/news/2023/media-release-austral-fisheries-commissions-new-cu
The Austral Odyssey’s advanced energy-saving hybrid propulsion system features an integrated load shaving battery package and 2-step gear box, which Austral Fisheries says will curb emissions and further improve fuel efficiency. The design also includes increased tank capacity to accommodate the potential for future less energy-dense renewable fuels, such as methanol. In addition to innovations in design and efficiency, the Austral Odyssey will be equipped for value-added production of the company’s premium MSC-certified Glacier 51 Toothfish brand at sea.
The Austral Odyssey is expected for delivery by Q4 in 2025.

What does a purse sein with 700 m.t. of mackerel look like? Here is how:
Trawler/Seiner Smaragd went mackerel fishing in the Norwegian zone in the middle of August, but there they found no mackerel, says Kristin Smådal Hide, day-to-day leader of the Owner Company of Smaragd.
On Wednesday, they filled the boat with mackerel in the British zone, on the field south of Shetland.
They can take 60 per cent of the quota in the British zone, so for “Smaragd” there will be around 1,100 tonnes still there, the rest in the Norwegian zone, where the mackerel is found for them for the time being.

New construction contract for Myklebust Verft
Myklebust Verft has entered into a shipbuilding contract for a new pelagic trawler for the Scottish owner Sunbeam Fishing Limited.
Delivery of the vessel from the yard in Gurskebotnen is planned for the turn of the year 2025/2026
The new building will be building number 79 delivered from the yard, and will be classified by Bureau Veritas.
The designer of the ship is SALT Ship Design, and is of type SALT 0364.
This is very gratifying for all of us at Myklebust. We have been looking forward to getting a new build into our portfolio of projects, and this will give us greater stability on the order side, says CEO of Myklebust Verft, Kristin Hide, in a press release.
In the project, we have with us a number of local suppliers of both equipment and services from the maritime cluster. The vessel type is within a segment that Myklebust has extensive experience with, and we are really looking forward to getting started with the task in full, she adds.
