Has anyone noticed a influx of military personnel gaining employment in the maritime industry; towing, offshore, O&G? As a active duty member myself, I am seriously contemplating jumping ship from military to the maritime industry.
I find it to be an easy industry to transition from even being ground side.
I just made the jump in June at the 10 year mark and stayed SELRES. So far it has been worth it. I have met a good number of prior military in the industry but most are retirees or academy grads. If you do make the jump, I highly recommend having your license in hand prior to separating.
I believe I may stick it out another 7 years then retire while nabbing as much endorsements as one can get with the GI Bill. Given the hype that is happening in the OSV industry, seems its a good time to get in on the action, for a lack of a better term. Perhaps the grass is greener on the other side, then again, it still has to be mowed.
