My name is Sharon Clair. I am looking for co workers of my brother, George Cole Jr.
George drown on 9/1/2013 on the Delaware River off of National Park, NJ.
They are not sure if he fell from his boat or his kayak. No one saw him fall. His body was found 30 hours after he went missing in the water. He had no life jacket on.
George was a Merchant Marine for 30 years and could swim. So I’m having a hard time with his drowning. I’m looking for co workers that could tell me if he wore a life jacket while working and also while boating on his free time.
I know that the company he worked for was out of NY. George and I had an argument when our mother died and were not on speaking terms at the time of his death.
Any information anyone may have would be appreciated, thank you.

You’ve reached out to the right crowd, I’m sure there’s plenty of people on here who’d like to help you, but do you have any more information to go on? Do you know the name of the company he worked for? Any idea of the name of the boat he worked on? Any more detailed information at all could help form a connection. I’m sorry I didn’t know your brother but I’d like to help if I could. You’re brother and family will be in my prayers, as well as those of many other members here on the forum I’m sure.
I’m very sorry for your loss and I hope that someone on here can help you find the closure that you need. Best of luck to you.
I also wish I could help, but I am a west coast tow boater. That being said, please follow the advice of Paddy above; and I also am sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. Even though there are a lot of boats out there this is a tight knit community. Give all the details you can find and there is a viable chance people on here can steer you in the right direction. Best of luck, god bless.
I have two barges that require me to do 2 ballast reports. Shouldn’t each maned barge be required to submit their own Ballast Water Management report as a manned vessels? Our company has a ATBs with unmand barges the tug has 7 man crew with the 2nd mate in charge of doing ballast reporting.Although you are an ATB you are NOT married to this particular barge. Your company should adjust the Ops plan to reflect that.
Hi Sharon. I know it has been several years since you posted about your brother George. I happened to stumble upon your post. George - we called him “Bubbles, Jr.” - sailed for Sun Transport, Inc. The office was in Aston, PA. I sailed with George several times. He was a good shipmate and an avid reader if memory serves. I also sailed with George “Bubbles” Sr. I was sad when I heard that your brother had passed. I’m sorry that you were not speaking at the time. I hope this helps. I can’t offer any more info but I’m guessing that it was warm or hot out that day and a life preserver may have been uncomfortable and he took a chance. We didn’t wear them on the ships except for lifeboat drills.
