Laid off looking for work! Don't know where to start!

Live in Massachusetts close to the Cape Cod Canal I was wondering if anyone had any good leads for companies around the area. There’s a lot of opportunities around here just don’t know where to start, I was hoping maybe some MMA grads on here may help.

Forgot to mention I’m an AB with two years experience

They’re hiring seasonal deck hands for the canal, check it out.

Do you know what companies?

http://www.moc.noaa.gov/shipjobs/

Also check the Jobs section of this site.

MSC may be hiring ABs also.

Foss may be hiring but the are Seattle area, may prefer local guys.

Lets see…who else…Inland Boat Union is getting started up I believe. They look for ABs and deckhands

One thing with the NOAA site…follow the directions carefully for what they are asking. Be patient, it can be a lengthy process but it’s better than it was when you had
to apply thru USA JOBS.

Just thought of this…the Duck boats in Philly are hiring for the season. That might actually be a fun job while you’re looking but I think you need to live local. Probably pays shite.

American Steamship. Rebel Rider says they’re a good outfit to work for.

Check out MMA’s website and their Career Services page. Usually have NE based jobs advertised in there. Maritime.edu
Good luck.

NE tug companies might be looking

The company im at routinely needs new deckhands with a strong back and a weak mind. Almost 400 a day for OS fresh off the street.

That’s good money!

And where is this at? Working tugs and barges?

Thats the pay for a deckhand on a semi-local NYC based boat. Stone tow work.

Gotcha. So like locals only basically?

Awesome good leads all around, went cruising around the canal but not a lot of work there most companies are close but not stationed around the area. Expanding the search outward more and more hope to find something good, the steamship authority is a job but not challenging enough but Boston and New York may have some good opening. What’s the name of the company you are with for the tugs and barge and what kind of schedule do you work?

Someone mentioned the Mass Maritime webpage. They do have an awesome jobs page. It covers maritime and other fields. American Steamship on the Great Lakes is SIU A/B’s. Try any of the Great Lakes companies. It’s fit out season and some of the ships are already running. Also this time of year, they go through quite a few A/B’s and O/S’s who can’t/won’t hack the work. Good luck.
