Knocking on Doors in Louisiana
Just spent a few days searching for employment with a chief engineer limited oceans license and all of the big companies were on a hiring freeze. I got an offer from seacor… If someone on here works there I’d like to talk about it.

Odyssey marine is still looking for qmeds and licensed engineers.
Did you get any interest from odyssea? I might have to try them…

Although, I was not planning on taking any guests until Oct. 5, I ended up with a couple of mariners, here, this week.

2 Academy grads called for reservations, while taking their DP classes at Kongsberg Maritime in Houston, last week.
So, I allowed them to come.

The good news is that 1 was hired at a company, today.
He is extremely excited.
He will start orientation next week.

Yes, some companies have not been hiring of late, but fortunately he made it happen at this company.

Wishing you all the very best.

As always, I provide a discounted weekly rate of $65/night which includes a deluxe continental breakfast.

Keep in mind, that check-in is from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., if checking in on a Sunday for the weekly rate. (no early or late check-ins, please)

If I can be of help to any of you in providing nice, affordable lodging while knocking on doors in Louisiana or going to school in the area, please email me at claudettelp@charter.net, PM, or call (985) 537-6773

Well, considering there are a couple of companies that have not been hiring of late, I would say we had a good week, here, thus far.

2 mariners were hired as Mates at the same company, today.
They went through their physical and will start their orientation, next week.
They are extremely happy!

1 mariner was hired as an OS and is going through his physical process.
He had previously come down, before.
This was his second trip.
He prepared himself very well by taking STCW, Safe Gulf, Maritime Security Awareness, and Rigging which set himself higher than some of the other applicants.
He made it all happen.

2 other mariners are still making their rounds attempting to meet with the right person.
Sometimes, you have to go back to companies to meet with the HR person or the HR person may tell you to go around to all of the other companies and return at the end of the week.

Wishing you all the best.

This week began with Nicky Collins at ECO being on vacation all week.
So, my mariners were unable to see him.

Then we found out that Harvey Gulf was closed for Columbus Day on Monday.
No other companies were off that day.
So, the mariners had to go back to Harvey Gulf, later in the week.

One academy grad was offered a QMED position at one company, but chose not to take it.
Another academy grad is still making his rounds hoping to meet with the HR persons that he was not able to see when he went in the first time.

As always, I provide a discounted weekly rate of $65/night which includes a deluxe continental breakfast.

Keep in mind, that check-in is from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., if checking in on a Sunday for the weekly rate. (no early or late check-ins, please)
Usually after I check everyone in on Sunday, I spend about 2 hours going over all of the companies, locations, and insight into the hiring process.
This is a complimentary service for all of the mariners staying at my B&B.

Great article in the Houma/ Thibodaux newspaper today.

New Swath of Gulf Opens to Oil and Gas Drilling

http://www.houmatoday.com/article/20141016/ARTICLES/141019719&tc=email_newsletter[/url

About 44 million acres in the GOM will be opened to oil and gas drilling early next year, federal officials said today.

The Edison Chouest Offshore boat The Brad Dartez docked at C-Pot at Port Fourchon. The port and local offshore service companies are expected to see business as a result of new areas in the Gulf opening to drilling.
Bids will be accepted March 18 at the Superdome in New Orleans from companies interested in drilling on about 7,500 sections of Gulf waters off Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said it is the seventh Gulf lease sale under the Obama administration’s lease program, which began 2012 and will continue through 2017.

“As one of the most productive basins in the world, the Gulf of Mexico is a cornerstone of our domestic energy portfolio, offering vital oil and gas resources that further economic growth and continue to reduce our dependence on foreign oil,” the agency’s acting director, Walter Cruickshank, said in a news release.

The waters stretch from three to 265 miles off the coast in the central Gulf, and depths run to 11,000 feet. Some of the leases are within three miles of the Unites States’ nautical border with Mexico.

Waters along the border are being opened for the first time under agreements reached last year between the two countries.

LSU economists released a report Tuesday that cites the newly opened waters as one reason the Houma-Thibodaux economy is expected to net about 4,500 new jobs through 2016.

The pact “will open up whole new sections of the Gulf that were off limits before,” the report says. “More availability means more exploration and more service work for firms out of the Houma area.”

The report also notes that about 95 percent of all new oil and gas projects in the Gulf are expected to use Port Fourchon, already a hub for the vast majority of activity offshore, as a service base.

The new areas up for lease in March could yield up to 894 million barrels of oil and 3.9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says.

The Obama administration program has sold drilling rights on more than 60 million offshore acres for a combined 2.4 billion during the six previous lease sales. The last lease sale in the western Gulf in August drew $110 million in high bids for 81 tracts off the Texas coast.

Louisiana oil interests said they are pleased by the new lease sale.

“The central Gulf is a powerhouse for oil and gas production, producing a significant portion of the $5 to $8 billion in offshore revenues generated off Louisiana’s coast each year,” said Lori LeBlanc, offshore committee director for the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association.

“While we anticipate continued strong investments in our nation’s offshore resources,” she added. “It is critical that the administration develops and maintains policies and regulations that provide consistency, clarity, and predictability to take full advantage of the Gulf’s potential.”

Well thats good to know. Maybe ill get lucky this spring when I go try again.

The new work from that offshore lease sale will take a year or two just for planning and permits. No effect on next spring.

Right before the Holidays is often a good time to get hired. More than the usual number of people demand time off, retire, quit, get doctor’s notes, or just disappear before the Holidays.

Good week, here, thus far.
3 mariners checked in on Sunday.

2 of them found a job, yesterday, with different companies.
So, needless to say, since everyone was so happy, we all went out to dinner last night to celebrate their accomplishments.
They are both starting their orientation classes today.

One other mariner is still making his rounds, today, going back to companies where the HR person was not available the day he went in.
Keep in mind you want to always allow extra time to go back to companies to meet with the HR person.

It’s not all about dropping off applications to all of the companies, as fast as you can.
You have to meet with the right person and sell yourself to them.

Bump😄. Kinda got quiet here

I dont imagine we will hear to much about hiring until oil gets back up above $100bbl or more.

Sad but true. americans want cheap fuel but dont understand its true cost cheap fuel means less jobs.

I like cheap gas & we’ll keep moving it rather it come from the gulf or somewhere else.

Actually, in the last 2 weeks, I have only had tourists from France, Alabama, and Canada, here; no mariners.
So, had nothing to really post.
Will have mariners here tomorrow.
Hopefully, I will have something good to share.

Claudette

Well, this has been a great week, here, at “A Chateau on the Bayou B&B”, thus far!
Considering the challenges of finding work of late, it has been successful for some of my guys.

2 academy grads checked in on Sunday and were both hired at a great company, yesterday.
They did their physical and drug test this morning.
This afternoon filled in paperwork and scheduled their orientation classes, beginning Mon. through Wed. of next week.
Should be out on a boat the week, afterward.

Another mariner chose to check in on Monday and missed my orientation on Sunday.
He is still making his rounds.
Will keep you posted on his journey.

Wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving, next week.

As always, I provide a discounted weekly rate of $65/night for 5 nights, which includes a deluxe continental breakfast.

This week ends, very well, here at “A Chateau on the Bayou B&B”.

A third academy grad gets hired, today, at the same company the other 2 were hired at, earlier this week.

You just never know how it will turn out, until you give it your all!

It was a pretty emotional week for everyone.

Keep in mind, that a job search is a process.

You, sometimes, have to be creative.

Best wishes to all of you, as usual.

Can you believe that? What an idiot, checking in on Monday and missing the Sunday orientation. And it goes to show, he’s the only mariner that didn’t get a job that week. Hopefully he learned his lesson; always listen to Ms. Claudette’s instructions!

Are u f’ing kidding me??
Are u f’ing kidding me??
Yes. Just a bit of Sunday morning sarcasm.

Actually, that is true.
He is the only one that did not get a job.

Considering the challenges of finding work at this time, I would think most would take any info they could get.
It naturally doesn’t fit for everyone, especially those that feel they don’t need any help.

I am only there for ones that are open minded to getting a bit of help.
Certainly, everyone is welcome to do what they feel best for them.

Still wishing all of you the very best.

I can’t believe people are still getting hired. I thought we were all supposed to be getting laid off or was it pay cuts?
