Industry Hiring Outlook

Just wanted to pick a few brains here for someone with limited to no industry experience but is considering a move into it

What is the industry hiring outlook for the next 5-10 years?

Specifically for ULCV (Ultra Large Container Vessels) and similar category ships for other cargo (bulk cargo, oil, LNG, etc)

And specifically for Deck/Bridge jobs (anything from 3rd Mate upto Captain

According to the academies and based on what limited reliable info I can find on google, the outlook is supposed to be between good and very good, but does that line up with what most/some of you are seeing in daily life?

Just my opinion, but the job out look is not bad. It’s such a small industry and group of jobs that it’s hard to forecast for. I think you’ll see the same wage stagnation that we’ve seen for the past few decades, but jobs will be available and pay will be comparable and influenced by other sectors of the industry, as well as opportunities to work shoreside. There usually an over supply of deck officers, but the supply of labor can spill over to shoreside jobs. This causes wages to stagnate, but also to never fully deflate. At the same time the companies do have to pay well enough to attract people considering you can’t just fill the jobs with anyone off the street. The biggest factors affecting US Deck officer jobs will be oil market, government programs, and global geopolitics.

Thanks @LI_Domer
When you say “US Deck Officer Jobs” are you then specifically referring to US flagged vessels or are you looking broader to the Maersk’s, ONE’s, Cosco’s, Evergreen’s and CMA CGM’s off the world who may be looking to hire US Deck Officers? Unfortunately, I’m a little more proficient in container transporters, than bulk goods, O&G or other carriers.

What’s your background? I had figured you were someone looking to move into this as a career. If you’re looking for world wide figures you’ll not get that here. My experience is mostly US, and most US officers sail on US Flagged vessels.

I’ll send you a DM

Those foreign companies try to hire their local officers - Italians, Germans or guys from underdeveloped world like from Ukraine, Romania, Poland, India and such.

Looking at among others the Maersk website I got the feeling as well as they refer you to some companies in those countries which look like they either operate ships or perform recruiting services.

The list of underdeveloped countries delivering manpower to EU & w/w fleet as mentioned by what looks like intelectual " Mariana Trench", living in remote shack or trailer in Crowley County or remote Pacific island is incomplete.

As per below pub ( what may help) for your kind perusal
