I took a different route as far as CFRs go, didn't ever look at one either time I tested (3/M and later the full 1600 ton master). If I remember correctly they are only relevant to the 70% modules. I studied the questions in lapware hard using that study mode and never had a problem getting 80-90 percents. I don't think I did any stability questions for the exact same reason.
Might not be the best theory for you, but it worked well for me, just thought I’d share a different point of view as far as the CFRs go.
Lol same idea, but I never deal with stability beyond what I could easily do, free surface and deck cargo CG stuff, but none of that Ton per inch crap using that stability book. Waste of time. I never had an issue with CFR stuff and found it easy nearly guaranteed right answers for the bank.
From what I saw the only difference from being in test mode and practice mode is in test mode you don’t know if you got the answer right till you are finished with the test. Practice mode you know as soon as you answer it.
The point is running through the questions and absorbing through repetition…at least that’s what I got out of it. Also, the explanations helped (where available).
I know this is an old thread, but there is some good information in here.
I am currently studying for my Chief Mate exam and having trouble figuring out the best way to use Lapware. I have my letter to test on the “Old System,” modules 151, 152, 153, 154, 155, 156, 157, 158, and Q100
The “Study Mode” for Rules of Road worked great to complete all the questions and go over the ones I got wrong.
I used “Training Mode” for all 2,572 Deck General questions. Now I’m generating “Study Tests” specific to my module # which give many of the same questions. Someone previously mentioned that issue in this thread.
Now I’m on Deck Safety which has 5,228 questions in its pool. I was going to do training mode, but that’s going to take a long time.
My Question: Is the total pool of Deck Safety questions applicable to my test? Or is there a way to narrow down the pool of questions specific to my modules in “Review Mode”? I see the categories listed but nothing specific to my module #
I have a total five weeks left to study and taking a prep class at MPT just before testing. Any advice helps.
You can email Lapware through their site and they can answer any question that you may have. They are typically very quick to respond.
I already did, but haven’t heard anything back yet. I’ve decided to keep generating test templates for deck safety instead of using the review. I know lapware doesn’t recommend that, but a friend who recently completed his Third Mate said it worked for him. I wish there was a way to narrow down the review pool to questions only applicable to my module.
