Hey everybody,
I’m going to make a trip to Houston next week to knock on drilling company doors looking for a 3rd mate/DPO job. I’ve never done this before and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/advice for me. Perhaps I should go to Louisiana instead of Houston?

most of the drilling companies wont let you talk to someone if you just show up.

This is true i just got hired as a DPO for a drilling company and the way to go about it is not knock on doors down there. First off do you have your DPO Unlimited certificate? If you do then you should contact recruiters on Linkedin or find their emails through other contacts. If you donʻt have your DP certificate then you are most likely not going to get a job on a drilling vessel as a DPO. The companies in Louisiana are much more open to walk ins as they tend to not plan ahead as much and have jobs that need filling ASAP.
