Hey Ya'll,

Hey everybody, my name is Jaime (pronounced hi-me) and I am new to the forum.

I am in the Machinist Mate in the Navy (I am a nuke) and will be retiring in April 2014 after 25 years. I spent all my time serving on submarines stationed in the Pacific Northwest and my plan for when I retire is to become a Merchant Mariner and start the next chapter of my life. I am hoping to start out as a QMED-oiler (at least that is what I put on my application) and my goal is to eventually serve as a Chief Engineer. As of right now, I am interested in working on an OSV but am open to working onboard an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico (at least I think I am).

I have attended BST and submitted my application to the NMC in September and am up to the point of waiting for my package to be assigned to an evaluator. It has been at this point since 18 November.

I have been lurking on the forum for a couple of months now trying to learn all I can about the profession and finally decided to actually register on the forum. Any and all advice is welcome!
