Headed to Louisiana sunday night to apply face to face any leads please

I and a friend are driving from houston, to Raceland Sunday night to be ready to apply for work early Monday morning. We are going to go to ECO, hornbeckoffshore, and GOL we heard we might get on as ABs there. Does anyone else have any other leads we should follow. I have a AB Unlimited, 100 ton master/200 ton mate, RFPNW, twic, passport, stcw, etc. My friend is also an AB and is already approved to test for 1600 ton mate so he will be an additional asset to someone soon.
I have three days to make the most of the trip. And any good leads will be followed and I will report back.
Thank you ahead of time

I’d also try Oceaneering in Morgan City, The GOL office you need to apply at is not the one in Raceland, it is in Galliano, across the bayou from Chouest. Hornbeck’s HR office is in Covington. Harvey Gulf is jus a bit S. of Chouest, L&M Botruc is also in Galliano. Otto Candies is on the way S. to Raceland in Des Allemandes. SEACOR is in Houma. If you get past all them without a nibble report back and I can expand the list. Give yourself plenty of time, you will have to fill out a complete application before seeing anyone generally. It is quite handy to have all your info (prior employment, references, etc.) pre-printed out, so you can transfer it easily to the applications. Good luck and don’t get discouraged.
Cheers!

Mondays can sometimes very busy for office personnel. If your schedule is flexible go Tuesday thru Thursday.

Monday is hiring day at Chouest. Orientations start Tuesday’s. I know they just hired quite a few Abe’s and Qmeds for the new ice breaker. Maybe they need more.

Thanks guys that is all great info. That ice breaker one would of been a cool interesting job. I will run up to the bridge and make copies of my stuff another great idea. I should probably ask my captain for a reference letter if he is willing. How important do you think those are. I can have my wife send me copies of the previous ones I have had to add?

I wouldn’t think you’d need a reference “letter”, just make sure you have the current contact info for at least 3 (preferably 5) references. If it’s from someone impossible to get hold of (Capt who is ALWAYS at sea) then a letter would be better than nothing.

Yes, Monday is a hiring day at ECO.
One guy staying at my B&B, this week, got hired on Mon. with Nicky Collins at ECO.
And, the last 2 Mondays, the same thing happened.
They were hired as an OS, AB, and 1600 ton capt. without DP.
It has been very active the last few months regarding hiring with all of these companies.
Best wishes to everyone looking for a job.

Good luck!

pls can anyone tell me companies that hirin or looking for abs? i’ve been doing the onlin application for a while no luck

You never know who’s hiring usually till you walk in the door. Online and resumes will only work when they are desperate, which they aren’t.

Newsailor I have applied online for many companies without a single response. I have heard from a bunch of different people that are WAY more knowledgeable than myself that applying in person is the best way. So we are headed over Sunday to start looking on Monday. I will post how things go on here. Cmar is also a good play that places you in jobs and doesn’t rip you off like compass or seaport. Stay away from them. They are a good company and kept me really busy. But its all contract work and no insurance. Marcie and the girls there at the office are fantastic and its a good way to keep busy until you find something permanent. Good luck

Well today wasn’t as successful as I was hoping it would be but still getting the applications in. Question tho does anyone know if Hornbeck is hiring for AB unlimiteds at all? Or the boom they have going on only for mates, captains, and engineers?

Keep at it. Jobs on the bayou often come to the most persistent.

Run as far and as fast from that icebreaker as you can.

More good news, another guy staying at my B&B got hired, today, Monday, as an AB at ECO.
He starts orientation tomorrow morning.
If you have everything you need, you can get hired!!!
Best wishes to all of you, once again.
