Hawsepiping with NOAA

Is it possible to go from wiper to licensed engineer with NOAA?

I’m assuming so (although I’m new to this). I don’t think it matters which company you work for during your sea time as long as it is reported properly and on a vessel of the correct classification.

This is the list for 3rd Engineer requirements from the Coast Guard.

Others may have more information on this.

Should be. Only issue you may have is getting unlimited HP once you are licensed. Not sure how many of their fleet are 4000 hp or over.

Not sure if they will cover classes either.

It sure is. But might take a while.

Do you know if they would cover the classes?

thanks for your contribution to the discussion!

I did it and spending as much time at sea as their ships do I did it pretty fast.
I did skip out to sail for chevron and a few others for up to 6 months a couple times so i got quite a bit of horsepower. NOAA will send you to school (during winter inport) and pays for a lot of other stuff as well. hard to beat the opportunity.
