Greetings from Norway

No Orange Roughy in your part?
Maybe those damn Norwegians with their factory trawlers got them all in the 1990s?

Orange Roughy is still caught but just about all is exported. I don’t find Orange Roughy particularly tasty. The fish in the photo was 3.5 Kg. They are one of the prime eating fish in the northern part of the country along with John Dory, Gurnard, and Groper. There is other beautiful eating fish out there but I would have to give you the Latin names other than the local names to mean anything.

We were fishing in 4.5 metres of water and caught 13 fish all snapper from 1.5 Kg on up in an hour. Others caught Gurnard in deeper water but used more gas.

Come along on one of the world’s most breathtaking cruises — from Gudvangen to Flåm, Norway :ship::norway:.
This journey takes us through the Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and into the majestic Aurlandsfjord, surrounded by steep mountains, waterfalls, and tiny villages. It’s one of the most scenic fjord routes in Norway and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It’s windy here in NW Norway these days:

From Kråkenes, near Stad. That is why we need to build a ship tunnel through the Stad Peninsula:

Sorry, only Norwegian spoken.
PS: May be an advantage, otherwise it would be all *BEEP.

“Mumma!! Mumma!!”

Too funny.

If you haven’t been to Oslo, here is a quick look around:

HAPPY EASTER HOLIDAY!! from Norway, where they know how to enjoy the Easter break:

Not in Norway, but in Northern Finland, which is not much different climate wise than inland Norway:

We have a similar track and facilities in the South Island of New Zealand. All the major marques are represented with the vehicles often disguised with dazzle paint and extra padding. I suspect they come here first given its secrecy.

After testing has finished Volvo and Range Rover offer lessons for a substantial fee for driving at terrifying speeds on snow and ice. I suspect some of the students who come to put Range Rovers through their paces drive the kind with the heavily tinted windows , know which end the bullet comes out of and the owner sits in the back.

Sauna combined with Ice bathing is a known as a Finnish speciality, but it is also becoming very popular in Norway:

Here in Ålesund there are several saunas, with this one probably the most popular:

No, there isn’t aquavit in the drum, just clean seawater from the nearby Brosundet.

PS: Sorry, no ice along the west coast. Just cold seawater (3-5C) to cool you off after a tip in the sauna.

The same has been said of the humble paper clip:

PS: Although the origin has been disputed.

Be that as it may, it became a symbol of unity and resistance during the German occupation of Norway (1940-45):
