The Nav, marker is back in place at “Korsfluda”:

PS> You may need to zoom in to see it (if you don’t have local knowledge)

It is that time of the year:

“Skit fiske” as we say in Norway

“The Gorge” coming to a TV screen near you soon:

Partly filmed in Norway.

Today is winter solstice and thanks heaven for that.
Here in Ålesund (at 62.5N Lat.) the day is short and the night long:
Sunrise: 10:05 hrs. Sunset: 15:02 hrs.

Since it is cloudy there today there are no sun to be seen, just dawn turning to dusk, with no real daylight in between.

But we will get it back in the summer when dusk turns to dawn without any real darkness between, although the sun is just below horizon for a few hours at night.

PS> Not sure if I will ever get used to winter darkness again. Or acclimatized to the winter weather here, either.

It’s that time of the year again, the time for Lutefisk:

Lutefisk with plenty of bacon fat is on our menu today, known as “little X-Mas Eve”
PS> With “Juleøl” (Special X-mas brew):

And Aquavit:

To go with it, the lutefisk goes down Merrily.
(Just don’t overcook it to where it becomes jelly)

“GOD JUL”

Doesn’t look like there will be any snow during X-Mas, at least not here in Ålesund:

1. Wednesday 25 Dec.

  • Expected: Debris avalanches, debris flows and slush slides: Yellow severityExpected: Debris avalanches, debris flows and slush slides: Yellow severity

The Lutefisk is ready:

With a LOT of bacon fat.

The X-Mas tree tree has been decorated by you sons as per tradition:

Unfortunatley our youngest son is not here yet. He is his sending his in-laws off to Australia, but is looking forward to introduce his first son to the family traditions when he gets here in a few days time.

X-Mas in a tent?:

It is not exactly “primitive camping” they are offering:

Bedroom with “in-situ” bathroom:

Sitting area:

The tent, or dome, is equipped like a hotel room. with a toilet, shower and also a refrigerator, kettle and microwave.
– Simply a hotel room out in nature, says Tone Rustøen.

My oldest son (49) walked up the 420 steps, took this picture and walked the same steps down again.
PS> He challenge you to come here and do the same. (Even in summer)

That Polar Lows hit the coast in Northern Norway is not unusual, but to get as far south as 60N is not a common occurrence,
The second one in about a week is forecast to hit us this early tomorrow morning:

[quote]
It is expected to drop 30-50 cm. of snow on us, even here at the coast.
Wind is expected to reach 26 m/s (52 kts.)
Not a nice way to start a New Year:

Some have got in trouble already:

We have had a taste of it already here in Ålesund:

PS> Nice when that is major news. We like to keep it like that.

After the storm; Winter wonderland:

My son sent this message after finish work today; “my car is under there somewhere”:

It’s not over yet:

Unfortunately it will all turn to slush next week, when the wind direction change SW’ly, with correspondently higher temperature and rain. (+6C by end of the week)

A good time to NOT be on the road:

This is a new one; Ferry crew couldn’t manage to keep the deck snow free enough for normal service. Snow plow to the rescue:
