A wider view of Ålesund by night:

The Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue reports on Twitter that they will practice with 330 Squadron in Borgundfjorden and Åsefjorden Tuesday afternoon and evening:

They did, right outside our window. (own photo)
PS> Also near the local base for the Rescue Service.

Not the best of weather, but I suspect nobody comes to Norway for the “sun, sand and cheap booze”:

South Bound:

Experience a voyage during the spring, when the contrast between north and south of Norway is most noticable:

A bit of historical facts for any “Haarek the Horrible” fans on the forum:

Posted on FB group “Ålesund - The city in my heart” today:

Beautiful spring evening with motifs from The Knife… and as Einar Heen so beautifully sings🎼
-Out to sea, the sun sinks down, the dusk hour fills me with peace, Moljefyret calmly flashes, busy gulls until me beckon, Ålesund is the best place in the world❤️

No it is not Venezia:

Pictures from Ålesund harbour during herring season 1959 - 60:

The vessel in front is the fireboat “Brannsprøyta”, blt. 1952.
Notice the herring hanging to dry under the walkway to the aft water cannon.
The shore connection arrangement is also ingenious.

It is spring. Time to get ready for this year’s mid-summer bonfire “Slinningsbålet”.
From smp.no today:

Want to come on a climb to the top of last year’s edition?:

It’s MAY!! Summer (aka “green winter”) is just around the corner.
Time to get to the beach. Just have to clear this snow first:

May be an image of 1 person, snowball and arctic

PS> The human race is meant to live in the tropics. If we were intended to live up here we would have been equipped with fur and blubber. Some appear to have evolved to match the climate.

PPS> Before you ask; no, it is not a self-portrait.

The same two ships were here together today.

That result in a lot of traffic up and down the steps to Fjellstua:

PS> The same two ships are expected to be here on 17.May, Norway’s National Day :norway: :norway:

A long calm and dry but chilly day end with clear sky at sunset;

Swedish Filmrevy from 1951 features Ålesund during the winter herring fisheries:

(Starts from 04:28. Sorry, Swedish only. No subtitles)

Long wait for the herring to get close to the coast and hard work when the fisheries got going.
The “population” in Ålesund more than doubled during the season, with fishing boats from up and down the coast and workers from all over Norway coming to participate in the bonanza.
