Hi all,
I am trying to find companies that hire for galley positions or anything else I may be qualified for and all I run into is ads for Google etc. How do you find these positions and apply? Any sort of guidance you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I have a lot of varied kitchen experience, enough to know that no two kitchens or galleys are alike and you HAVE to follow what you’re told to do.

Edison CHOUEST Offshore has cooks on most of their boats. Oceaneering International has large work crews and cooks and galley hands also.

Or google catering jobs

Thank! I’m just not familiar with this process. I really appreciate your reply.
Try SIU. I believe they’re always hiring galley hands.

That leads to links that go in a huge circle. They’ll basically bounce you from one job search site like Monster Jobs or the like without ever leading you to an actual company or application. When you try to use most of the sites you don’t get anything but a huge amount of spam and no leads.
Thank you all for the input. Im tracking down leads now and so far found out I have to take a safety course…live and learn huh?

I found a school by that name and private investigating courses. Is it a company or the school?
Sailors international union. Check out www dot seafarers dot org. Good luck.

Thanks again and I will.
Alot of the offshore companies use catering srevices and don’t hire cooks or galley hands direct, try looking up some of these names with the words “offshore catering” and Houma, La. in your search, Trinity, Delta, Aramark, Blue Marlin, and Encore.
I think Bisso marine hires cooks direct, and maybe some of the great lakes companeis, depending on what is local to you.
I am going to Google these companies. I was out at the employment office today and one of the ladies said that if the seas start acting up or otherwise there’s a storm coming in that they probably wouldn’t be talking to applicants right now. as they would be concerned with getting everyone off the rig. I looked at the SUI site and its indeed interesting. I am not especially attached to being here in Louisiana so if an opportunity took me somewhere else as long as I could get there no sweat.
NOAA also hires cooks directly, but you must apply through the usajobs.gov website
You do not need STCW to apply at least for second cook or GVA (General Vessel Assistant), they will send you.

I don’t know that TS Andrea is a real threat to the rigs just at the moment, as she is projected to cut south to north across Florida.
I am right now bouncing around past the Florida Keys. We are leaving TS Andrea and will sail back into it when we reach Jax. So it’s going to affect traffic in the southeastern Gulf and Southeast…
So make your plans to apply.

I am out here in Mississippi canyon right now, it got up to about 12 foot seas today, everyone is still drilling, ROV’s are in the water, business as usual and no big deal for us. They did cancel the 2 chopper flights that we had scheduled for today, because of high wind. Ironiclay most of our galley crew was due off, so they are not to happy right now.
I’m not sure either but I bet they dont want to take chances. I applied to several companies today. Some are ones I’ve posted to before.
I wonder if they remove galley crews and cleaning crews and leave the other workers for last?
Another thing after looking at the NOAA jobs listed. I am wondering that even if they have no job in your location can you still interview and transfer? They have a total of twenty openings listed and any of the locations would be fine by me. I’d take Alaska any day.
