Fat Leonard Scandal Update

Came across this today.

“Fat Leonard,” the Navy bribery scandal involving more than 60 admirals, explained

“In May 2017, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison, had his rank reduced to captain, and had to pay $150,000 in fines.”

This case has been developing for awhile and he was sentenced in May so with time served he’s probably out by now and continuing to collect about 100K a year from the Captain’s pension. He’s probably got enough payoff money stashed away in an offshore account so that the fine is a minor inconvenience.
These admirals sold out the country’s interests in exchange for booze fueled parties with hookers in fancy hotels while navigational awareness in their fleet was in such a sorry ass condition that 17 sailors’ lives were snuffed out in avoidable fiascos and they get a slap on the wrist.
Is this a great country or what!

still catching people out here in Asia

Isn’t the policy of giving a massive tranche of work to one super-agent basically inviting corruption?

"Amundson deliberately, methodically, and repeatedly traded his public office for entertainment expenses and the services of prostitutes, and in so doing, aligned himself with a foreign defense contractor over his Navy, his colleagues and his country. "

If he had done the same for an American defense contractor he would now have a corner office, a fat compensation package, and invites to all the best D.C. cocktail parties. … and total immunity.

Very true. Amundson is obviously not very smart.
