Friends tell me there has been an explosion in one of the shipyards in Mobile, Al. Hope all is well I don’t know any other details at the moment

Looks like a fuel barge with maybe LNG.

I don’t have time to listen now but they are talking about it on the Mobile “Fire And Rescue” scanner. Here’s the link to the audio stream:

The chief just asked for an update from the rescue squad on team. Rescue replied “The fire is unpredictable. It flames up then it really flames high. We can’t tell what’s going on.”

The command station set up between Austal and the grain elevator.

They also noted that the Carnival Triumph is about 1000’ from the nearest flame.

There’s a new JHSV down there too. Hope they aren’t too close, all that blasted aluminum!

Yes, it’s the “CHOCTAW COUNTY”. The good news is her AIS is still transmitting, the bad news is that, yes, she’s close to the fire.

AIS also shows that YP 707, just buzzed by the JHSV to get a damage report. No report yet on what they found.

According to Twitter the explosion did not happen at Austal but a location just south of the shipyard:

All my coworkers at Austal #Austal I checked on working night shift are okay, to my knowledge. Fire at Oil Recovery, just south of Austal
