DP Trainee are u there?

Hi,
First thing just entering DPI course was it´s very difficult to get a DP Trainee position.
Once over there i did not realized what´s going to be like but after searching and searching and sending 100000000 cv´s it´s really difficult.
I´m European Chief Mate without experience in Supply… anyway…everybody must start some day no? or were borned like full dp operator?
Any ideas??

Thanks

Luis

Which European DP Induction course did you go to? What DP equipment do they use for training. How was the quality of instruction? What did it cost? Did you get a discount as an unemployed student that had to pay for the course yourself? Did you have to pay additional costs for room and board? Did you make any contacts at the course that might be helpful to acquire your first 30 days of DP seatime?

Hi,thanks for your answer.
The course was in Lowestoft England, the level was ok i guess due that the instructor was a dp full captain in the past for many years.
I tried to make contacts inside the course but only get few addresses, didn´t have a discount on the price (1300 pounds) for four days.
And couldn´t apply like a student ´cos I finished college few years ago and i´ve been sailing like deck officer for 3 years.
The system simulator was ALSTOM and we get a certificate acredited by the Nautical Institute.
I think everything was ok with the course.

Thanks again

Luis

Does it all make any difference?

I did that DP Basic at the Training Centre in Poland on the brand new Konsgsbergs with the instructors working as masters / SDPOs… The quality of the instruction was excellent, we could do much more exercises, training sessions than it was required by Nautical Institute training model, asking hundreds of questions and discussing many varoius situations…Alas! you can not see that on any paper… Contacts made during training are more of hope giving rather than promising…

Although I have Chief Officer license, experience as 2nd officer on class dp 2 seismic vessel, good overall knowledge and understanding of precise positioning offshore operations, there is very little chance to make step further to get DP Advanced and eventually full DPO…

Simply keep on monitoring labour market, update CVs and waiting for an opportunity to arise… I wish myself and people in similar situation - good luck !!
