Hi All,
I am preparing to sit my Raise in Grade tests next month. I have been approved to test for 500 Oceans. I am useing the Murphy guides and his Deck Officer CD ROM. Can anyone tell me what I DO NOT have to study? I know stability is not in the test for the limited license, anything else? Thanks very much for any and all insight.
No difference between 500 ton to 2nd Mate…Module codes are different just for record keeping.
Stability will be on the 500 ton test, but it’s usually just 7 questions or so mixed in with the firefighting, first aid, cfr, and whatever else is the safety module. You should be fine by learning the free surface and GM formulas, and all of the terminology for the most part. There will be a Chief Mate type stability question in there that may throw you for a loop. There always seems to be for good measure.

Mate 500 or Master 500?
JD Cavo - Master 500
Anchorman - Thanks for your insight.
Hi Jim,
Have you looked at the cfr’s to see what your subjects are? Go to the ecfr link I’ll put below, and read 46 CFR 11.910 Subjects for deck officer endorsements.
Thank you, That’s a great help and much more current than the list I had.
