I’ve stayed out of this one up to this point but need to say that this is all c.capt wants for a Valentine’s present
Nothing says love like 7.62x51 ammo in large quantities
Who loves ya baby?
Not sure how far you are away from this one, a little over priced but with the insane mess that is going on now, you will probably be lucky to find a M1A that is not over priced right now… Who knows cash talks, plus if you can get it as a private sale that is worth a couple bucks right there.

Edit | Favorite Springfield M1A, made in 1990, GI parts include: TRW barrel, bolt, and op-rod. HRA trigger group, rest of parts unmarked but are GI. Rifle comes sitting in an issue wood stock, with a GI sling, modified full auto connector parts to make it look like an actual M14 when installed but does nothing, and 2 NIW current issue mags. The rifle isn’t a safe queen, it has been used so it isn’t perfect. I bought new springs from Smith Enterprise and replaced them within the last year. For $100 more, I can replace the rear sight with a National Match unit. I’m not looking for trades unfortunately. Price includes shipping.
Picked it out for you or herself? If it’s for you, then you are a lucky sob…if however she picked if out for herself, then you are an even LUCKIER SOB!
For her, she has the mini-14 and mastered the peep sight and likes it. She also has the ablity to pick the most expensive weapon on the rack…lol.
Also Norinco built a M14 (full size) that was supposed to be really good. Watch out for the shorties balistically they are not up to par. **** ALSO you have to use ammo with hard primers to avoid the weapon going off while cycling. (little known fact you won’t know till you get the rifle and you see that large RED tag attached to the weapon) and while cycling you will see “ticks” on the primers…
Well I headed straight to Dick’s after dropping the kids off at school and I arrived about an hour after they opened, the hunting section was packed. I asked the clerk if the had the takedown and he said they got a shipment of Rugers in last night but sold every 10/22 that was delivered along with every box of .22.

You guys are right… this is nonsense!
Will Dicks special order one or can you pay now and wait for delivery?
I’m not sure why .22 has become so scarce? Everywhere I go the .22 ammo is gone. I’ve got about 6k of them cause they “were” cheap. I’d go with my wife when she went to get her nails done at the mall, pop over and buy some “extra” ammo or Rapala’s for fishing.
***** STICK WITH THE FACTORY MAGS ***** in my exp the aftermarket 10-22 ones suck - buy extra ones
Sorry you have to pay an extra $110 but that’s cheap money in the long run. That rifle will be in the family for the next 100 years. I am not kidding, I have in my gun safe my grandfathers semi-auto shotgun from the 1930’s and my great grandfathers .303 Enfield with a 1916 date stamp.
I have to agree the nonsense that is going on right now is just insane, especially since the 10/22 is on the exempt list and won’t be banned under your favortie senators new bill. I wonder when people will realize that they will still be able to buy them next year and quite paying the inflated prices.
Be patient John the madness wil go away in a few months I hope, then ammo and mags should be more readilly available.
The oldest rifle in my collection is a 03 Springfield that the barrel, reciever and stock are all dated march of 1930. It is in about 95% condition and I would put it up against most any new rifle on the market.
My M1 carbine is a Winchester from 1943, one of my Garands is a Springfield from late 1944, and I have a Springfield 1911 from 1944 as well. All will shoot with any new gun on the market.
Just goes to show you that if you take care of them they will probably be around longer than you.
Glad to hear that you atleast were able to get a nice 10/22 even though you had to pay a little to much for it. Right now guns are a better investment than gold.
The lack of ammo, parts, mags, its actually quite shocking. I went looking tonight, for some parts for another black rifle, dont even bother. Lower manufacturer sent me an email, expect delivery on or about NOVEMBER 2013…WTF. Got a brand new M1A in the box for 900.00, so that at least takes away some of the pain. Hopefully all these idiots who have dropped 3k for a dressed out AR realize they have gotten the shaft when things finally calm down.

And that’s the crazy part. What has changed in the past 2 months? Speculation that firearm ownership will disappear in the country. Ain’t going to happen and speculation is the only thing driving this frenzy.
I suspect in the new legislation it may be difficult to buy a semi-auto black rifle with large cap magazines. If you want one of those it may be now or never. Other than that, relax. Hunting, sport and defense rifles and pistols and ammo will be for sale next year and later.
I suggest John go ahead and purchase the 10/22 at the higher price now. You’ll have many hours of fun at the range as you hone your marksmanship. Once the dust settles next year, think about getting the Remington 870 pump shotgun and a skeet launcher. A whole new skill set will emerge as you practice shattering clay discs on the fly.
I already bought her… paid ready to bring home as soon as the 10 day waiting period is over.
$469 sounds like a lot but the dealer didn’t inflate the price on me… they just charged me full retail $399. The rest of the money went to the state and feds for taxes and the background check.
Yes, Dicks (and a few others) have it on sale for $349 but they only do that to bring people in the door knowing full well they won’t have any in stock.
So I’m ok with the price.
Also - FYI - the dealer I bought it from, RangeMaster, had it on a shelf behind the counter because he wanted to keep it for himself. The reason I recognized it was because of the Ruger patch on the front of the bag. When I asked if it was for sale he said “yes sir. I had set it aside for myself but if u buy it my wife will thank you for saving me $400!”
A different small store down the road I went to had a sign reading “All rifles sold at full retail plus 20%”.
It sure is nice that while both the big box and small guys are squeezing this shortage for all it’s worth some local guys are still playing an honest game.
Here’s s link to the guys I bought it from. They sell lots of high quality tactical gear to police around the country but most of it is also for sale to private citizens out if state. Good stuff, take a look: http://www.rangemastertacticalgear.com/
Lots of ammo in Alaska, I was at a gun store yesterday and they had everything, limited supply of 223 but at least they had it…
I talked to the owner, they just had a mini 14 and 2 SR 556 (ruger ar15) on the shelf, of course they sold quickly, but they had a SKS and a M1 30 carbine on the shelf…
Powder was available but primers are impossible to find, I have a few in the “bunker”

Well that’s good cause weapons without ammo are door props.(Unless it has a bayonet!)
*Most small places here have jacked up .223 to $20 a box. ($1 a shot) and people are paying it. NUTZ.
SKS is a wonderful platform - not very “tacticool” but they are ultra dependable. I consider them to be the “glocks” of rifles. I’ve always said if somebody would build one in .223 or another popular caliber(7.62x54r!!!) they would fly off the shelves. 10 shot FIXED mag and a bayonet.
Put a longer poly stock on it and a few rails(for the tacticool kids) then call it the “Amercian Defender”. The SKS is the “ultimate” survival tool bar none in my opnion. They are the defitinion of K.I.S.S. in my book.
Scored an “M-17S” in the bag, with extras. I love when people need money. What I wanna know is, “FEMA” just graduated 5k new federal police officers, who work directly for “FEMA”. They also decided to buy 25,000 M4 rifles, 1000 armored stryker vehicles, and 5 MILLION rounds of .223/5.56 ammo. Kinda makes you wonder what they are thinking… hmm… Government soldiers coming to a neighborhood near you. Dont get me wrong, im not a “prepper” or right wing fanatic, but what does a government agency who helps out natural disaster victims need its own swat teams and strykers for…??
