Covid-19 News/Updates

Hydroxychloroquine has been around for more than 100 years and works when you have fever and do not feel well. After a while you are cured. Of course most people getting Covid-19 do not notice anything and just carry on anyway.

Latest worldwide figures:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Note the trend in different countries. It appears that the, the longer since the initial outbreak, the more testing carried out and the stronger lock down is enforced the fewer new cases recorded.

The number of cases per million population is also worth noting:
China: 57 US 259 Italy 1333 UK 172.

Two countries with similar population (approx. 5.5 mill.):but different approach:
Norway 681 cases/mill. Singapore 117 cases/mill.

While Trump the other day said that he wants to undo the social distancing restrictions for some states and parts of the country, news came out that now the US leads the world in confirmed Coronavirus cases, even more then China had and that with a four times larger population. It looks like he wants to speed up infections in those parts of the country that are still doing reasonably well, get it over with…

Latest news: British prime minister Johnson (55) tested positive. Trump better be careful.

That’s not news to anyone who can read a log curve. We’ve been saying this here for ten days or more.

He wants to be seen as successful and to lift the stock market; which seem to be his two main motivations in life. He knows better than the experts – why x-spurts are nothing but unknown drips under pressure, after all.

I think if he pushes hard enough we’ll see “rolling quarantines”. The parts of the country that are lightly affected can start getting back to work if quarantine and distancing protocols are closely adhered to.
Areas like NY can devote their attention to the fight until their curve begins to flatten.

I know, but only now it came out officially.

Trump must be getting rather panicky by now. He encountered somebody, notably a lowlife virus, who doesn’t listen to him and he can’t fire them. For some unique situations, like this crisis, you probably need a president with another kind of skills set but that will not happen.

Latest Smerconish survey. It’s still early, but saving lives is leading by a large margin.

You can’t make this sh*t up. This is precisely why the Defense Production Act was created, and why some people find it useful to know how government works. Ford and GM need a contract.

It seems, I was not the only reader misled by the CDC report about the 17-day-old virus on Diamond Princess.
CDC had to clarify their text:

My personal excuse:
My old eyes can still see an entire virus flying around, but not its structure anymore…

Anyway, the M/S Diamond Princess wasn’t sunk by the corona virus and we all have survived! So it is time to stop this social distancing nonsense and go back to normal!

Heiwa, this quote is from you, from your website (I forget the name–was it nutjobkrazypants. com?)

“No atomic bombs ever exploded over Hiroshima and Nagasaki August 1945. News about 100 000’s of Japanese being vaporized in a nanoseconds FLASH and disappearing in thin air or slowly being killed by nuclear radiation during several months afterwards autumn 1945 at various Japanese hospitals were just Fake News and propaganda!”

No sane person would trust you to read a thermometer, let alone consult on health safety.

On television an ICU doctor mentioned that almost all his patients had the same ‘posture’. Asked what he meant by that he said that almost all the ICU patients are obese, more than 80% he estimated. Doctors are puzzled what the mechanism is behind this score. It seems that obesity kills…

Over 70 million adults in U.S. are obese (35 million men and 35 million women). 99 million are overweight (45 million women and 54 million men). That is not good news for the Corona survival statistics in the U.S.

In the Netherlands in 2018 13% of the population above 18 years was obese, versus 39,6% in 2016 of the adults in America, that is triple our amount. Quite a remarkable difference. But then we eat a lot of (raw) fish.

Coronaviruses can cause more severe symptoms and complications in people with obesity-related conditions.

We all huddle in our houses while we shelter in place, eating our unhealthy comfort food and restaurant delivery, sitting on the couch watching tv and sleep more. All the while we plump up and increase our BMI. Oink oink!

I’ve definitely put on weight in the past few weeks. :frowning:

Lack of movement is a big problem these days especially for young people who tend to spend too much time with playing video games, socializing for hours with a smartphone, even while bicycling in dense traffic.

Singapore took grip early, closing the border to travelers from Hubei and other affected provinces of China, HK, and S.Korea at first sign of the Covid-19 epidemic and reactivating the precautions implemented during the SARS epidemic in 2003-4, thus limiting the number of cases early.

Now there problem is that this has turned into a pandemic, affecting the whole world- Singapore, being a major travel and shipping hub and an open society, with people from all over the world living and working there, is experiencing a second wave of infections, both imported and locally transmitted.

An efficient health service and extensive testing is still able to keep track of most sources and contacts, but not 100% any more:

Seeing you being the best informed amateur here:

I googled coronavirus+heat+temperature, and many more explicit combinations, and receive always thousands of proposals about the local climate, and summer and winter, and…

I am looking for the sterilization temperatures of this ugly virus; the low and upper limits:

  • Freezing something?

  • Cooking how hot and how long; of vegetables or anything else, not eatable, surviving the water and the temperature?

Do you know something about this?

I do not, but I’ll keep an eye out.

I have been hearing that it doesn’t like food and we should worry little about that route, but I don’t have an authority for it.
