Here in Europa there is a strong feeling that Trump by making China ‘The Boogeyman’ is creating a common enemy image that will divert the attention from his huge internal problems and the much critized handling of the coronacrisis. An centuries old trick out of the books.
He may think bashing China during hard times in the U.S. before an election is good political strategy. By showing America’s unemployed workers that he feels their pain, he could get their votes in November. In reality, however, he must know that blaming China for America’s economic woes and the ever rising death toll because of the coronavirus that this will not alleviate the suffering of ordinary Americans. I think it won’t work.

New Zealand is slowly moving back to normal. We have moved from level 4 ( a total lockdown), level 3 (level 4 with non contact fast food ) and are now at level 2.
Level 2 has still has restrictions on sport, social distancing, max of 10 people and we are now down to two people with confid19 and they have been isolated throughout so can’t have passed the virus on.

Most sentient beings would look outside first if Trump said the Sun was shining before taking his word for it. It is a good sign that at least 36 percent of those polled realize Trump is a pathological liar with profound emotional health issues whose utterances should not be taken seriously.
Antimalarial drug touted by President Trump is linked to increased risk of death in coronavirus patients, study says

A study of 96,000 hospitalized coronavirus patients on six continents found that those who received an antimalarial drug promoted by President Trump as a “game changer” in the fight against the virus had a significantly higher risk of death compared with those who did not.
People treated with hydroxychloroquine, or the closely related drug chloroquine, were also more likely to develop a type of irregular heart rhythm, or arrhythmia, that can lead to sudden cardiac death, it concluded.
The study, published Friday in the medical journal the Lancet, is the largest analysis to date of the risks and benefits of treating covid-19 patients with antimalarial drugs. It is based on a retrospective analysis of medical records, not a controlled study in which patients are divided randomly into treatment groups — a method considered the gold standard of medicine. But the sheer size of the study was convincing to some scientists.
“It’s one thing not to have benefit, but this shows distinct harm,” said Eric Topol, a cardiologist and director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute. “If there was ever hope for this drug, this is the death of it.”…
When a drug is approved for a purpose, it has to undergo safety and efficacy trials. Just because it is used in relative safety for one purpose doesn’t mean it’s ok to use for a new purpose. You wouldn’t use chemotherapy to prevent cancer, for example.
There are several large, randomized, double-blind studies going on right now for the use of hydroxychloroquine as a prophylaxis (preventative) for Covid19. The subjects are people who are at most risk of infection- doctors and nurses. You’ll probably see those results later this summer or early fall.
People who take it for lupus, or rheumatoid arthritis, are pre-screened for risk and are monitored by their physician for toxicity. But demand is up and supplies are low. I think if you insist on taking it, try to see if you can join a study. Of course, there’s a chance you could be given placebo.
Has Trump ever clearly stated he takes hydroxychloriquine specifically to fight Covid-19? The reason I ask is because the drug has been used to treat other ailments, notably syphillis.
It was found out after Hitler’s death that his increasingly irrational behavior was due to syphilis. Just wondering…
He said he was and was finishing the ‘course’ of taking it this week. Which is odd since he suggested he was taking it to ‘prevent’ so why would the ‘course’ end. People suspect it was due to all the people in WH testing positive that he demanded it for himself.
The drug currently is made available under FDA Emergency Use Authorization. In an interview the media probably can’t remember and Admin would hate to find the FDA Director for the Center for Drug Évaluation and Research spoke about granting the EUA and perception it was political given the President was already trumpeting it as a wonder drug (question in bold as in original, note the emphasis bold I added in her answer for the narrow limited use considering the President comments and use):
“ There’s this perception that the EUA was granted for political reasons, because we don’t have the benefit or risk information, and we don’t have trials for Covid-19, specifically. I’m wondering the extent to which that’s a concern. And how do you justify the EUA when you don’t have that information that we’d like to have?
Well, that’s what the EUA is for. We did an EUA for Peramivir if you recall for [H1N1] influenza [in 2009]. This was an approved drug, hydroxychloroquine, that is, that was being widely used off label. So if people want to misconstrue it as an FDA approval, they can, but that’s not what it is. It augmented supply. It was only directed toward hospitalized patients with Covid-19, where they could be monitored for any EKG abnormalities. But people, as you well know, will say what they say. It won’t affect the FDA approval standard and there are many robust trials going on for hydroxychloroquine and we’re going to find out whether it works or not in all the various areas in which it’s being used.”
I hope you meant malaria, which is its primary use. I’m finding no mentions of it being used against syphilis, which is generally well treated by antibiotics, particularly long-acting Benzathine Penicillin G.
This conjecture has been advanced but I think not substantiated. Since his body was burned it wasn’t available for autopsy even had someone been so inclined at the time.

There are, however, also other explanations for his terminal syndrome, and evidence that repeated clinical examinations did not show the characteristic signs of dementia paralytica or tabes dorsalis, swings the balance of probability away from tertiary syphilis.
