Covid-19 News/Updates

That’s peachy keen and we’re both old enought to remember Japanese toys made from recyled beer cans but Japan was on its ass. China is a powerhouse with designs.

I do. I particularly remember a little waddling chick. That was GEN MacArthur’s way of getting some cash into the wrecked economy.

China may be a powerhouse with designs, but it’s only recently become an industrial nation. Whereas Japan was already rivaling Germany in optics by WWII, had a machine tool industry, aircraft industry, shipbuilding industry etc…

A year? Without a vaccine? C’mon, be serious.

When a new disease comes along everyone has to hit the ground running. Because the US hit the ground running Ebola didn’t turn into a ten times as horrifying pandemic. We had 24,000 or so people working on it within two or three days of the first patient being recorded. We nailed that sucker, and we could have done it again if all those people hadn’t been fired.

Ebola is not a good comparison as it is “too hot”. It kills so quickly that the hosts, (people), don’t have a good chance to spread the virus around.

The coronavirus as we know is highly contagious, but manages to leave most of its hosts alive to spread the virus.

Yeah I know, but the China is shady as fuck.

its all over the internet
I think those US reporters got booted out of the country for filming the daily queues to the crematoriums where some simple maths worked out that number in Wuhan alone.

I found how they handled the situation refreshing. But sadly they were scapegoats however…they should have known something bad would happen as they executed the former food and drug chief 2 years earlier for taking bribes. He should have said it was a campaign contribution

Maybe they dont trust their own so they shipped them overseas?

So much for the shining city on the strait that can do no wrong. :face_with_thermometer:

There were 198 new cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore on Friday (April 10), bringing the total number of infections across the 2,000-mark to 2,108.

Contact tracing is underway to find links to previous known cases or clusters for 71 new cases. No imported cases were reported.

7 deaths in the grand scheme of things considering the population density and the dormitory living of many workers is not as bad as I would have thought. They seem to be handling it as well or better than most countries. As a technocracy you can bet they have a plan b,c, d and on down thru the alphabet.

Not easy to limit the spread when it has got into foreign workers dormitories.
Dense living and shut down of most work places keep a lot of workers in close proximity 24/7. (No much changes of keeping 2 m. apart)

In the early days of the outbreak Singapore could keep control without shutting down everything. (except travel from the affected parts of China)

With the present pandemic affecting nearly all countries it is a lot harder to limit the spread from abroad. Since it is now also a lot of local spread they have shut down just about everything lately.

Good medical facilities and health care system has managed to keep the deaths low (7 so far, or 1.25/Mill. population)

Not many countries is as exposed to foreign travel, or as densely populated, as Singapore. yet only 360/Mill. has been infected

Trump wants that businesses and economy will reopen. Don’t even think about it, don’t be stupid and if you do it will get back at you as a boomerang.

I dunno, give it a try. If it doesn’t work out maybe people won’t reelect the same congress critters that let such a thing happen…maybe.

“We don’t feel like we’re being protected — we’re being thrown onto the front lines,” the corpsman said. “We weren’t tested (for COVID-19) and we’re treating patients that are old, sick and wounded.”

The sailor said medical crews are reusing N95 masks outside of the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — something the Navy denies.

But is is a lot more “fun” to find something to critics than to admit that something is done right, especially when we are talking about a “foreign country”.
PS> Not “foreign” to me.

Looking at the latest figures the number of new infection and deaths has fallen drastically in the US:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
(If you believe the figures, that is)

And all are in California (??)
