Finally, some good news: Experts believe that Oregon man Bill Lapschies, a World War II veteran, may now be the worldâs oldest survivor of the coronavirus currently causing a global pandemic.
Oregon Public Broadcasting caught up with Lapschies at his 104th birthday party, which took place 25 days after he showed symptoms of the virus and 19 days after he last had a fever.
âI donât know,â Lapschies told a reporter after he was asked how he survived the virus. â It just went away. Sit out here and you can get rid of anything .â
Donât worry, though â the OPB reports that attendees at the party wore masks and stood six feet apart to prevent infection.
Doctors at the veterans home where Lapschies live told the network that his case never became overly severe, although they believe he probably would have been hospitalized if he hadnât lived at a long term care facility.
Since early in the outbreak, itâs become clear that the coronavirus is particularly deadly for old people.
Lapschies isnât the first elderly person to fight off the coronavirus. A 103-year-0ld woman in China recovered after catching it, and a 101-year-old man in Italy was also released from the hospital after recovering from COVID-19, both in March.
âThis could have easily gone another way,â Rob Richardson, a doctor at the facility, told the network. âThereâs not a lot of interventions that can be done.â

How about from a guy whoâs worked those ships? A sea story perhaps?
A few years ago during the Puerto Rico hurricane debacle COMFORT was sent down. At first she stayed miles from the coast for force protection. This severely limited the ability to get people out to the ship.
Next, it was decided that the ship wouldnât be attacked by terrorists so she got close. Of course the people had to be screened first before coming on board. This slowed the number of people that could be helped.
Finally it was decided that she could go pier side and people could walk up and get treatment. Mind you this only took a few weeks to figure out. Before that it was a waste of resources
So hearing that there are few patients aboard is about right. Theyâll figure it out sooner or later.

I got other stories about those hospital ships. We were anchored off Guatemala running enclosed boats back and forth. The civilians were the boat crews and the Navy rode the boats for passenger support. One day the Navy were wearing masks. I asked what for. They said, âFor the tuberculosis patients.â I lost my shit. (Tuberculosis is a highly contagious airborne disease.) No one gave us masks or even warned us. I was later told the patients were tested for tuberculosis and were negative, but Navy wore the masks just in case. They put my guys and I at risk but looked out for their own. Thanks fucktards!

When I read this article by Chelsea Clinton who has her PhD in public health administration and teaches Masters Classes (meaning those students are working on their PhDâs or another Masters degree). The point Chelsea is making is that she doesnât feel qualified to lead a Corona virus task force with all of her qualifications.
It isnât common for Clinton to take make political jabs but this one may illustrates why our rivals may be taking the lead. She is pointing to Jared Kushner who has no education or experience with this field having been appointed (by Trump) into such a position. .
Itâs an interesting read and the points she makes.may be telling as to why our rivals are excelling. (and we arenât)

I have posted on the effort of Singapore and the success they had at the early stage, but Singapore is hardly a ârivalâ to USA, (Nor is South Korea. Japan, Taiwan or Hong Kong)
China also did well in limiting the outbreak to a few cities and provinces, keeping a large part of the country and population free from infection.
Maybe this is the âRivalâ you are referring to? In that case, be glad you have ârivalsâ that is also willing to send help to hard hit countries in need;

Keep your bridge, but it is a fact that only a part of China and a small proportion of the Chinese population (57/Mill.) got affected by the epidemic due to the draconian (but efficient) action taken when the seriousness of it became clear to the local and central authorities.
Wuhan City and the surrounding Hubei Province was put on strict lock down, followed by nearby provinces and the big coastal cities that was most exposed to the dangerâŚ
This happened at the worst possible time, during the Chinese New Year travel season, when millions of migrant workers and others are going back to their home towns and villages for a reunion dinner with their families, returning to the coastal cities afterwards:

China is also assisting other countries that is now suffering from Covid - 19 outbreak.
Not only advice but personnel and supplies of protective gear and much needed ventilators.

While I had some reservations about his business practices when Microsoft was up and coming I have nothing but respect for his efforts in public health. I have first hand experience with the Gates Foundationâs efforts to eradicate malaria thru partnerships and the Roll Back Malaria program. When he speaks on public health issues I listen as he has access to some of the best scientific minds all over the world, he listens and spends billions with great oversight to make sure the money is well used.

Donald has had no plan since he entered office, much to his surprise, except to promote himself. The man doesnât read reports or listen to those with many years of experience as he admits himself. He ignored warnings, took no decisive action early on as some other nations did. The scorecard of pandemic deaths for the USA will be his legacy. Of course look on the lighter side. The USA will be number 1 among developed countries
