It is very well described and laid out in the introduction to this book.(which is nearly an epic scale chronicle of what has been done to the GOP starting with Nixon.
Our last Republican POTUS Eisenhower warned of this in the early 50’s. and called out a bunch of ultra right Vulture Capitalist who would hijack (clear agenda and mission) the GOP and Eisenhower called them stupid. (E. Howard Hunt and a few Texas Oil Millionaires…GHW Bush would have been one of those numbers).
Read this book or download the audio book and listen to if you aren’t much of a reader and learn of the agenda and how focused on the mission those like Charles Koch are, and how many billions of dollars they are willing to put into accomplishing their ends.
What we have now is about what Adams, Jefferson, and Franklin had going against them in 1776 when they were trying to get the Declaration of Independence signed against great opposition of the wealthy of their times.
