Cigars

Anyone smoke cigars?

Since I quit smoking cigarettes, I enjoy a cigar or a bowl in my pipe (no green stuff)…

During my 9 months unemployed, I worked at my local cigar shop… Now I have expensive tastes…

No, I think most Cubans are overrated

Partagas, Habana Gold and Monte Cristo were my favorites when I smoked. I too was not impressed with Cubans I sampled. There was one particular Habana Gold that was the smoothest thing I ever smoked every time I burned one.

I used to be a big time Cigar Smoker, luckily a good friend was involved with building and installing Humidors in Bars. He got me started on Las Palma’s (SP) unfortunately they went out of business after a couple of years. These were some of the best that I ever smoked. As for Cuban’s people need to remember that there are really good ones but there are also really cheap ones also. I have had some really good Cuban’s that I not only smoked all the way down but I inhaled it also.

I am kind of a curse to Cigar Comapnies, as whenever I find one that I really enjoy they go out of business.

With the new FDA regulations, a lot are going to go out of business… Big Tobacco wants to kill vaping so they lumped cigars into the regs… I understand wanting to stop underage use but most teenagers aren’t buying Ashton VSGs or the like to roll blunts…

Just curious how will regulating cigars kill vaping?

It’s all lumped together ( cigars and vaping liquids)… FDA regulations requiring products to be tested and approved. The FDA has yet to say how long the approval process will take and cost but industry reps believe it will be between $60k and $100k per product. So a cigar or vapor liquid that come in multiple sizes will be treated like a different products… With cigarettes, each camel light size and variety is a different products.

All cigars/ vaping products on the market before August 1, 2007 will be grandfathered in. New products will have to be approved to be sold so Cubans will have to be approved as they are not legally on the market.

Basically cigars and vapes will fall under the same regs as cigarettes

I agree with Cuban cigars being overrated. People need to remember that after the embargo, many of the cigar fields were converted to sugar cane to supply Russia. Since its obviously an agricultural product, the soil has never been the same since converting BACK to cigar fields. Post embargo propagated many of the growers to take those seeds and grow in countries like the D.R., Honduras, Mexico, etc. Thats why we have so many wonderful choices now. The closest you’ll likely get to a pre embargo Cuban cigar in taste and robust knock you on your ass flavor is a Honduran cigar with all 3 components grown in Honduras.

He likes $1,000 a stick cigars… Gurkha Special Reserves.

We tried to find out what type he used with Monica at the shop but found out it was probably a cheap one… My cheap is $2… His might have been $20

I don’t know about that guy but why don’t YOU have one on me? From my own private stock even

I know a lot of experienced smokers who say they don’t like Gurkhas but I’m a fan. Except for maybe two every one I’ve smoked had great construction and an even burn.

I’m trying not to learn more about pipe tobacco lately, I’ve just got a Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman cob pipe. Smoked some Samuel Galwith Scottish Autumn in it the other day and it was a great smoke. Don’t really have the time or ability to smoke everyday or I’d probably have a lot more to say.

I don’t smoke, Scooter.

I am just getting into them, and am trying samplers from JR. There are a couple of Dominicans I like but I’d have to find the rings that I’ve saved to tell you which ones. I am a former cigarette smoker and have to remind myself not to inhale, but that’s not been a big problem.

My husband rolls his eyes heavenward, but it’s not like I smoke them in the house and I brush my teeth twice (or more) a day which is more than I can say about him.

And CC Welcome Back!!!

You can’t go wrong with a Macanudo. Cat, cigar.com has some good deals as well. I’m very partial to Rocky Patel. His CT shade wrapper box pressed corona is awesome. Invest in a good torch lighter if you get into it more.

There are two apps that I recommend Cigar Scanner ( you take a picture of your cigar) and Cigar Geeks (3,500 brands, 30,000 cigars and 48,000 reviews - helpful when you are trying to figure out what to buy)

Atlantic Cigar is a really good place to buy online

Don’t smoke cigars but once in a blue moon if I’m feeling extra philosophical I will light a pipe of Escudo Navy Deluxe. Why Escudo? 'Cause the 'bacer is grown right near where I grew up plus it says “Navy” so it seemed fitting for a mariner. For all I know its poor stuff but I don’t know any better!

I was a former cigarette smoker who took up cigars. . . unfortunately it led me back to cigarettes (was in a bar that allowed cigarettes but not cigars was my excuse at the time). I have been smoke free now for 10 years with little interest in either . . . .

Thanks for all the links/sugg’s guys

I am too poor a late blooming third eng to afford a real cigar habit so one or two a fortnight will do just fine. Roger that cmakin, it’s hard not to inhale. I take a lot of care to savor the flavor and then I let it go. I used to inhale cigarettes deeply. Kinda miss that feeling- and that is a dangerous feeling to indulge. COPD and cancer are two things that are not worth it. I have no qualms about giving away the half dozen dominicans and travel humidor in my possession right now

The trick to buying cigars cheap is to buy the mixed sample bags or factory seconds from the online retailers. Unless it’s something I know I love, I like to avoid paying full retail.
