Carney win despite Trump’s interference in the election:
A simple comment:
Is everything bad that happens in the world really Trump’s fault?
Polliverie cast himself as the Canadian Trump. Trump bashed Canada and Polliverie sank in the polls.
Polliverie was doing better in the past two weeks while Trump was quiet, but thenTrump started talking 51st State again, and Polliverie sank again.
Trump very significantly helped to get Carney elected. That’s a fact.
Carney is highly qualified. Hopefully, he was a good choice. We’ll see what happens.
Is what happened in Canada yesterday bad?
Carney’s Liberal Party won the election fair and square, despite Trump’s attempt to interfere. How can that be bad?
Trump can claim some credit for the result, though.
PS> Canadians are not followers of Trump’s MAGA cult:
I don’t know if you caught it or not but yesterday he was criticizing Trump’s wardrobe & posting links about it. Good grief. I don’t think I ever cared about a politician or celebrity enough to discuss their clothes. Even when Fetterman was wearing sweats or libs do the culture appropriation act by wearing those African sleeping gowns, who cares that much to post links about it? These poor souls. Imagine working your whole life, traveling the world, hopefully making a difference for good to spend the twilight years online hating on a politician half way across the world all day. Sad.
Reminds me of the Republicans and Obama Derangement Syndrome a few years past. He wore a tan suit to a press conference and they went nuts.
But Zelensky didn’t wear a suit! What a disgrace!
Are you are referring to my post about Trump showing up in the Pope’s funeral in a blue suite, although the dress code had been published well in advance and every other world leader respected that? (Incl. Melania):
Back to the real subject:
Question; who called who?
The reaction from USA:
PS> This was published before the announcement from Canadian PM’s office.
I agree. Let’s just focus on what they say. Here’s what CJ posted yesterday to the Canadians re: their election:
“Elect the man who has the strength and wisdom to cut your taxes in half, increase your military power, for free, to the highest level in the World, have your Car, Steel, Aluminum, Lumber, Energy, and all other businesses, QUADRUPLE in size, WITH ZERO TARIFFS OR TAXES, if Canada becomes the cherished 51st. State of the United States of America.”
It’s fun to listen to the cult explain how none of that isn’t nuts.
Are you suggesting that we accept President Trump’s promises without reservations. I have been a cynic over politician’s promises for a very long time, Trump I put in a very special category.
On Trump’s wearing a blue suit, I would concede he may have been badly advised but if he made the decision then it confirms my opinion of the man.
By the way, more drugs are smuggled into Canada from the USA, than from Canada into the US.
Ditto weapons.
So why did CJ institute tariffs against Canada? Especially since for Americans those tariffs are just another tax Americans themselves pay?
Yes, it is as nuts as that, folks.
Remember when this was an awesome Maritime website talking about the Deep Sea, Offshore and Inland Tug industries, both US and Overseas? Man, those were the days!!
A few times I’ve started threads, looking to hear others viewpoints on how some issue will affect shipping and Mariners
They all tend to go off the rails in just a few posts
I remember when people could post about whatever was on their minds in this area called scuttlebutt without some self-righteous twit whining about the content.
gCaptain seems to be petering out as a source of maritime discussion and information.
Most of the longtime frequent posters are not posting so much. A lot of former frequent posters have completely disappeared.
Random, while I think FLOTUS (that’s Fucking Loser Of The United States, not First Lady in this usage) is a bit of an imbecile with international relations, was there any possible benefit to him getting Carney elected? He’d been quiet about the “Canadian Trump” right up until the end and I find his torpedoing him in the 11th hour highly suspicious.
There seems to far more posts about news and politics than maritime issues as of the last year or two. With a couple notable posters who post lots of tangential articles only barely related to maritime issues in the US. General interest seems to be down, and tbh the longtime posters guys seem to have retired and moved on.
It’s what I call the ‘30-06’ principle of communications.
I used to subscribe to all sorts of firearms/reloading magazines. About two years into each magazine I would read yet another article on 30-06 cartridge/rifles. 9mm versus .45 debate. Etc. The same things I read before. Trouble is, there are only so many cartridges and rifles out there, but you need to publish a new magazine every month. So, it got repetitive.
After awhile I stopped subscribing to them all.
Gcaptain has been around for a long time. All the maritime topics have been thoroughly discussed.
Who wants to debate the merits of the Jones Act yet again? Say, why don’t we all pile up yet again on MSC’s recruitment woes? Look–by god, there’s a young person wanting to get advice on how to get into the industry! Never saw that before…
We’re all literary vultures waiting around for the next collision, grounding, sinking, or fire. (But only of vessels/water of US or commonwealth nations).
That’s an interesting point. It mirrors demographics in general.
We’ll today is day 100. Just 1,360 more to go & maybe the forum will get back on track.
