I don’t know if this should be under the category of “yachts” or “scuttlebutt” but found it pretty funny.
Its been the name of yacht since it was launched 30 yrs ago for a Japanese guy I seem to remember?
So news article was wrong unless it had been changed and he changed it back?
Its German warship with no guns, goes fast too.
Inward turning props so it wont back up straight, always a cluster when its trying to berth.
Looks like a comfortable ride to me. Nothing a couple cans of spray paint & few bottles of White Out couldn’t fix. I would have changed the name to Yllaer Izanatonmi.
A lot of BS in these recent Ronin/Izanami stories.
It was built by Lurssen for a Japanese owner as Izanami (a Japanese goddess, a crab, and a flower!)). Allegedly an old lady in Ft Lauderdale saw the name in her car mirror while parking at Bahia Mar and made a huge fuss - rapidly put on the market.
It was sold to Ellison and immediately renamed Ronin (all his motor & sailing yachts have Japanese names). Inward-turning props (quite standard with Lurssen) changed to outward-turning. Otherwise not well looked after.
He sold it to Victor Vargas (Venezuelan banker), at which point I had some involvement at Atlantic Marine in Jax. (BIG repairs arising from defects found in purchase survey.)
It has since been sold on.

That’s pretty dang cool.
I’m not concerned about her old name at all & after reading about it on wiki it’s actually a good maritime fit. But did you or any of your former shipmates notice the anadrome or have conversations about it?
My understanding is the original Japanese owner did not use the yacht after his wife (reportedly respectful inspiration for the yacht’s name) died.
It did travel around thereafter for a while with crew only and at least two of the earlier captains are still active in the industry. Have been aboard for technical matters under three separate owners. Nice, fast aluminum hull yacht in the day. MTU 16V595 TE engines not often seen now. Definitely made +26 kts speed log & DGPS
No idea how it is maintained nowadays. Last time I saw her was over here in STP Palma
in about 1990 we came through Corinth Canal behind it, once it cleared it took off like a ski boat
