Approval to test letter

recently got my approval to test letter for mate 1600 near coastal and beside each test category is a module #. I was told you could type the module # in on lapware to narrow down study questions but i dont see that feature. Anyone have any info on this ? thanks

I think you can do that with Seasources…not sure about Lapware, but maybe somebody else has that info…

Yes lapware has that feature. For the review questions you can put in your code by scrolling through the selections.
When you generate practice tests, and you scroll, all the module codes are listed along with ‘tonnnage’, ‘raise in grade’, ‘mate’, ‘master’, etc…along with the corresponding code.

Lapware does narrow things down well, but its not foolproof. I’ve used it a couple different times for different things. For example, when I recently tested, the nav general, deck gen and deck safety practice tests on lapware were a bit different than what the uscg threw at me.

I’m not familiar with the functionality of Lapware, but recently NMC changed the software they use for exams, and the module numbers are different. If they are still using the old codes, you can correlate them to the new module numbers by using the “old rules” and “new rules” exam guides onfrom the NMC web page (e.g. look up a specific license in each, and compare the module numbers).

A good example of that is how ROTR module 054 became Q100. On lapware it lists them together in the same selection. I don’t recall if the other modules had the same thing.

Oddly enough my approval letter has the old codes for all the tests except rules, Q100.

They are currently transitioning. There may be some of the old tests still in circulation. NMC generates tests and makes them available via a server to the RECs who select the specific version of the module to give (based on which ones you might have taken before and what others in the room might be taking the same day). For most of the old tests, the last two digits are the version number, e.g. 05401, 05402, etc. This is why they were listed as “054XX” in the old exam guide and test letters. "This inventory of modules is rotated periodically and may still include some of the tests from thew older software.
