Re: 'back problems"…
I went for an interview with Diamond for a mate job about 15 years ago. They sent me for an MRI as part of a physical. Lo and behold, the Dr or tech discovered I had “back problems”. Since I had never in my life had any kind of trouble with my back and to this day many years later, still have not had, I thought WTF??? I went to my DR when I got home and asked him what was wrong with my back- his reply- absoulutely nothing- “everybody over 30 has that”. So, I figured that these companies now only want the most perfect specimens to go to work for them. They have lost and will continue to lose some of the very best people out there. I will never again have anything to do with Diamond and will never recommend them to anyone.
As for thier not wanting to inherit a problem- they don;t want to even give a person a chance to develop a problem. All of these companies are run solely by lawyers and insurance companies to the severe detriment of everyone but the corporations. I personally think they are allowed to get away with murder and I do not see any kind of protection for the worker or person trying to get a job. Or even a person who already has one, most of these jobs are “right to work” (right to fire for any or no reason at all). No, there is nothing to help you if you can not pass thier physical. You are just out of luck. Yes, there definately is a blacklist and once you are on it, forget working in the gulf. It just plain sucks how much power these companies have down here and all the crap they are allowed to get away with and the worst of it is in the guise of “safety”.
It under the guise of safety when it is in their interests, not ours…
What they do down there, and I’m sorry I forgot to mention it earlier is that they require 100 lbs of lifting ability on a continuous basis…If you look at any vocational description or commercial seaman requirements, you will find that anywhere between 40-75 pounds of lifting are the norm…
I wonder how many of us could lift 100 pounds on a continuous basis? 8 hours a day…??This is the loophole that the lawyers have found to disqualify someone with the help of the medical dept…You can very easily pass a physical, although end up with a limitation on what you can lift…This could be from other types of past surgeries ,not just back surgeries…
Having said this, I will go with Capt. lee 100% …Keep your mouth shut…
