Anyone else having computer trouble re gcaptain?

Many times lately I have been getting alerts from Norton 360 that a malicious web kit was automatically blocked when I used firefox from my google homepage to access gcaptain.
I was unable to access gcaptain from my computer for a couple days. i don’t know how, but i got it working again. Last night the same thnig happened and now I’m getting a message web site cannot be found.

I had no trouble logging on to gcaptain from another computer.

I saw my norton anti virus block that malicious web kit attack just a little while ago. I have not had anything out of the ordinary beside that.

Chief, if you are using a microsoft operating system Internet Explorer is always in the background (even if you are not using the program) and it stores lots of cache, cookies, and browser history. IE is embedded within microsoft’s OS so you can’t get rid of it (if someone knows how to wipe it out kindly let me know). You may need to open-up IE and clear out all the junk as this may be causing you some problems. There is an excellent tool available to do this for you, it is highly recommended by all computer magazines, it’s called “CCleaner” and you may do a Google search for it. I downloaded the free version a year ago and am pleased with its performance. I use AVG antivirus, along with Malwarebytes, so far I’ve experienced no forum problems other than at times the site is overloaded with users and guests. Hope this helps.

Yep, same here, I use AVAST and every once in a while it will show “Malisious Malware Blocked” or something like that. I could not get on here for about 45 mins. It kept going to google 404 something.

I have a hunch, only a hunch mind you, that AVAST saw an advertisement as malware. I don’t understand why your browser went to an error code, and then got you locked out for 45 mins. only to recover and all was OK. Did you do an antivirus scan after you received such information? I highly suggest you take a look at “Malwarebytes” as an extra level of protection.

I have an issue with my iPad. It says more often then not, server to busy, secession timed out or something is out dated. Then it won’t load, the screen will stay blank. I look at my phone (droid) and the site is working fine.

I have been getting a phrase error message alot on my iPhone app. What is that about?

I get “parse error” on my iPhone and iPad app a lot lately. It was doing it before the server upgrades but more frequently now after the upgrades.

gCaptain is scanned continually for Malware both at the server level (via software) and at the browser level via google. Attached is our latest malware report. Neither have have reported an instance of malware all year.

Two possible causes. One is that your malware program is over-sensitive and is unsure what to make of some of the special features (things like polls, facebook updates, etc) on this site. The other possible problem is malware on your computer is trying to access your gCaptain information (log-in, password). I’ve seen instances of both problems in the past year.

The server message happens when too many people hit refresh at the same time. It simply means the server is putting you on hold to process other requests. We are working on this. Of note, the server processes the requests of registered members first, then visitors… so you are much less likely to receive that message if you sign into your account.

I get “connection error request timed out” about 5-10 times in a row on my iPhone.

On my iphone, If I get the server timed out message and black screen, I will close the app, then on home screen double tap the home button, hold on the gCap app until the delete x appears on it, then deleted it. This closes the app from running in the background. I usually do that with all apps running in the background to save battery. But when I reopen gCapt afterwards it starts up again and usually works normally. Probably can do that same procedure on the iPad… Not sure.

I’m still unable to find gcaptain from my windows desktop. Everything else is working fine on it.

I’ve found that the pharse errors slowly build up to where I can’t open any threads. I deleted the app and then reinstalled it and they go away for awhile.

Using Windows 7 & Norton…no problems so far.

I use Windows 7 and Trend Micro with no issues.

A couple of years ago, I would have suggested Spybot Search And Destroy, but I believe Malwarebytes does a better job and is more accessible (ie, user-friendly) to the non-techie. I just did a complete sweep through all of the computers in my office using Malwarebytes and it worked very well.

If you’re having issues with Firefox, you might try disabling your add-ons. Some are known to cause problems that show up as virus-like errors. Another thing to do, which can’t hurt and can only help, is to do a complete disk-cleanup. There are third-party apps you can download, but windows does a fair job with it’s own including software if you prompt it to do so. You can likewise schedule routine, ie middle of the night when you’re not using it, functions that will sweep, clean and otherwise keep your pc healthy.

I’ve been getting the “parse error” like crazy on my iPhone lately, to the point where I can’t even use the app. On the iPad it works fine though - it’s the same app isnt it?

I have been getting the same parse error on my iPad all the time.

After two days of my desktop being unable to find gcaptain at all (while my laptop worked fine) and after many futile attempts to restore desktop access to gcaptain, the desktop suddenly just started accessing gcaptain again tonight.

I had to reinstall the app in iPhone.
