My last third mate got 4000 points to get in. And last time GEB meeting they only took 2.
What is a GEB meeting?
Just type MMP GEB into google and it will populate. Amongst other things, they vote on book issuance.
If 40 (just to pick a number) OSG mates are bringing 40 new jobs to the MMP, why shouldn’t they get A Books?
The OSG mates have permanent jobs. If mate Jones decides to give up his permanent job to sail out of the hall, why shouldn’t Jones get an A Book?
If they OSG mates were not getting A Books, they probably wouldn’t have voted in MMP.
None of the existing A or B books are bringing any new jobs to the hall.
If there are only a dozen or two dozen B Books, and they are feeling butthurt, why not just give them all A Books too?
Or at least for every OSG mate that gives up his permanent job to sail out of the hall, promote one B Book to A Book?
This, OSG coming to MMP, seems like a win win win for everyone involved, except OSG managers and shareholders.
Except then the OSG mates take their A books and leave OSG…and MMP doesn’t have the Tanker Mates to replace them. But that’s OSGs problem!
There’s no more of them anymore…just Saltchuk.
Sounds like MMP had better get busy coming up with a USCG approved Tankerman PIC training program for Mates.
The USCG now allows anyone with Tankerman PIC- Barge to serve as Tankerman Assistant on ships.
Certain ATBs also qualify as Tankerman PIC (ship) seatime.
It also sounds like Mates with Tankerman should be getting extra pay too.
CMA CGM PHOENIX is now showing as U.S. Flag under MarineTraffic. ABS information does not yet reflect a registry change.
It should be fully crewed. One of my former unlicensed asked me if I was on there ha…
Did any of you AMO guys see the jobs on the AMO board? Or were these filled in a not-so-transparent way? Curious because one of the AMO people I know claims he was not even aware this was happening.
They sent out an email and said if you’re interested contact dispatch to get on the list.
That’s a whole other Union issue I’ve been fighting for a year or two now
Interesting they’re calling it CMA CGM America. I wonder if it’s still APL management right down from crewing, dpa, etc…
Well they posted it on LinkedIn with GD front and center.
YES, it is. GD signed the contract. APL PORT ENGINEER boarded the ship right after being on PRESIDENT X on USWC. Same crewing dept. etc, etc, etc. MMP isn’t fighting this on just single aspect of OSPREY SHIP MGMT existence/non existence.
That argument isn’t going to work. There are US flag companies that have the same crewing departments but have different ships subsidiaries working with different Unions. Mearsk Line comes to mind.
MMP has access to E Ships via old Farrell Lines contract. I cannot speak to AMO manned MLL ships. Must be iron clad, because MMP, (and MEBA) to my knowledge has never fought it.
Like I said it before, it’s basically multifaceted. There are multiple angles of attack. We shall see. AFL CIO ruling will likely be out within 2 -3 weeks, based on my latest information.
And Osprey is different how?
Okay so what if MMP wins then what? MMP fills the deck officer positions and then AMO fills the engine? All the engine officers would hate the deck officers number one but who’s to say AMO just says we are not going to fill the engine along with MEBA. And say good luck. MMP would get sued by CMA-CGM because MMP wouldn’t be able to get the ships to sail. Is that how it ends ?
Share the details? Are you a Union official? Because your optimism sounds like the same story … light on details and no plan just reactive
We’re going to find out exactly if/how/why AFL CIO does or doesn’t see it being different.
Pls correct me if I’m wrong (seriously no problem whatsoever) but I don’t recall even once replying in this thread where I took a dump on any union OR ever said MMP had some slam dunk argument. We have our perspective and GD has his. AMO/SIU have/had nothing to lose by signing the deal with Osprey. They either gain ships n the end or they don’t.
I cannot and will not share real details of what I know has been presented at the hearing because I agreed to such when I spoke with 3 different MMP officials. What I can tell you with no reservation is that not one of them claimed it was a slam dunk. They believe they have very strong evidence to counter this Osprey contract, but they all know ( and have clearly stated as much to me) it’s a complete toss up of what the committee is going to decide, because that’s the nature of the beast, just like arbitration. And they all admit even then no one truly knows what AMO/SIU does if they ‘lose.’
I communicate regularly as needed with multiple VPs. Information is shared freely with an expectation of confidentiality without needing to restate it every time. As far as details go, just like I don’t share wage details of MMP CBAs unless appropriate, I’m not going to divulge details of the content of their argument to AFL CIO let alone any other type of CBA process, arbitration, etc.
And I’m sure that AMO/ SIU/MEBA/SUP/MFOW, etc would want exactly the same of its dues paying mariners.
I have no idea what happens if MMP ‘wins’ and all these other scenarios happen that you are throwing at the wall. I just know that I PERSONALLY have not been on a US commercial ship that failed to sail because of too many missing crew in 20+yrs. The only time I heard of such where I knew it to be true was a time or two in the 2000s when Horizon operated TAGS/TAGOS over in Japan? had trouble finding CMs and didn’t sail on time. But it’s not like they had cargo to deliver on a liner service, so nobody probably cared…. not even MSC.
I think your doomsday scenario is a fantasy that seems born out of just wanting to shit on MMP.
This thread genuinely seems full of mariners who are incredibly confident that MMP is just going down like a burning house of cards over this Osprey Ship Mgmt. There are a few MMP people in this thread, but none of them are jumping up and down on the mountaintop proclaiming we are going to win, slam dunk , etc.
And all the while, most of the others do seem to be doing just that.
Was it the same vibe right before the APL Guam was taken away? Or when they didn’t get jobs they thought they would on Pasha new builds. Yes, yes, yes I know different situations, but I would be shocked if the confidence was any less then than it seems to be now.
