Yes, get it. Join AMO. 20 new ships coming in from CMA CGM to APL. Tons of 3/m jobs to be filled. OSPREY SHIP MGMT will keep you employed for life.
Donāt be a dick.
I believe MMP won the XX hearing. Looks like it will be MMP/MEBA crewing the 20.
Honestly, more than likely itās not going to happen at all. Kind of like it was never likely to happen no matter who crewed it. All those jobs would be HUGE for the industry, but IMO, it was never likely to happen. Just a ploy by Saade.
Donāt get me wrong, itāll be awesome if it does.
Tell that to ROBICHAUX and DOYLE.
Is it true AMO is considering ignoring the ruling?
Honestly, no idea. But might as well throw out the RUMOR Iāve been passed.
From a fellow MMP member :
āThe APL lady that is in mitigation at headquarters said they are scaling back massively on their new us flag ships.ā
What a MASSIVE win for MM&P
Not a win for anybody ā but frankly I think a lot of people were aware they were full of shit.
But @JohnnyCanal keeps saying how you guys won? Huge win, one ship! Couldāve been 20 for the USMM but instead MM&P gets one! A great victory all around
- The WIN is the principle on which the case was based. You canāt raid AND fuck with somebodyās contracts and expect the AFL CIO to be okay with it. What AMO chooses to do with āumpireāsā ruling is entirely up to them. Last time I checked, not a single MMP LDO is headed to Durban for a crew changeā¦.
- The likelihood of actually getting 20 ships, let alone keeping the one that we did get under US flag was always very suspect. If they donāt do it, it isnāt because of title 20 ruling; it is because it was always smoke and mirrors
- As clearly stated in bold letters⦠Rumor
- Youāre right, we did win the title 20 hearing. Thatās all I ever said we won, nothing further.
More than likely.
Exactly, Iāll believe it when I see it. Still waiting for OSG too.
And we will all keep waiting. TRUMP and his coven of witch judges are in control of that. As far I can tell, nothing is changing on that front for many, many months to come, if not over a year.
Whatever you say, college boy. You obviously know the economics and politics of it all. A mystery why someone as genius as you is wasting time sailing when you could be crafting policy somewhere.
Well I will assure that when they return to the States, AFL-CIO longshoreman will not board the ship if MMP is being screwed and AMO is violating the XX hearing. If AMO has not agreed to relinquish the ship, I would be very surprised if the ship is loaded/unloaded in the states. What would I know thoughā¦ā¦ā¦..
I bet APL/ Osprey wanted this to happen so they could go to the Trump administration and say we made an effort but the Unions are making it impossible. There needs to be less officer Unions. I still donāt know why MMP couldnāt make a deal with the other two Unions- Probably the egos at the top prevented this. Seems it wouldāve worked out better if all Unions were working together.
To the OP I think your best bet is to get your 1600 ton thereās way more opportunities and the US deepsea as seen through some of these posts is f-ed up. You could get a job then one trip be kicked off by another union or at the very least there is a lot of union politics and barriers just to get a job in general.
To think CMA CGM was actually going to reflag 20 vessels without any meaningful incentive is delusional. None of those ships were MSP, and even when vessels are in the MSP program, that funding barely covers the cost of employing American crews.
Itās ironic that this outcome is being spun as a win for AMO as if they can now say, āSee? If MMP wins jurisdiction, the reflag never happens.ā All that does is shift the blame between unions instead of addressing the bigger issue. CMA CGM likely went to Trump to stroke his ego. They should have done a Tim Cook and gave him an all gold replica of a CMA ship.
And letās not forget the impact of tariffs and the broader economic pressure hitting the shipping industry. That alone is enough to torpedo any optimism about mass reflags, regardless of which union gets jurisdiction.
Thatās some mighty fine policy crafting right there. Are you a ācollege boyā?
