Just trying to separate fact from fiction. There’s a lot of talk among my AB buddies that on some barges AB tanker-men are making 500 and over a day. Is that a scientific fact or a scientific rumor.
Pay-rates have gotten convoluted over the last couple of years. The most recent was when the pay started jumping in the oilfield, some companies started giving perdiem money instead of raises. Ray Charles could see that cut coming.
The next easy-out for the tug/barge companies is the travel pay added to the day rate. If you live close to the crew change port, it’s a good deal.
The best I know of is Crowley. Better than $400 @ day. Travel is taken care of by the company. I think OSG and USS are about the same.
