Crowley LNG ATB day rates. I dont have details, got it off FB.
Around 725 a day DDE4000 engineer sailing on a tug.
I’ve posted this in the other thread, but here are the Reinauer rates through June of '27. There is an additional $50 per day on top of those for travel and wheelhouse personnel do not do cargo.
If this keeps up I may be heading back to tugs soon.
OSV work is quickly losing its appeal if it ever was appealing, and no raise on the horizon that I can see.
That’s competitive pay, and not having to Tank a barge on top of wheelhouse duties is a huge benefit.
That was the biggest downside to tug/barge work and something the other companies need to figure out if they want to retain bridge personnel.
Certainly saves these companies money using the Mates as tankermen but really limiting themselves to a very small pool of candidates that are capable and competent in wheelhouse and tanking a barge.
Which union ? What are the mates making there?
For what you are describing, my money is on AMO. TAGS/TAGOS vessels.
Unfortunately, the pay is garbage for fair market value. It’s been that way for decades on those ships. It was horrible when Horizon had them. At this point, all MSC contracts are crap. They are supposed to get a good bump when they award contracts for the TAGS / TAGOS later this year year. Best govt money and (very close to MLL) right now is MARAD FOS, if you can score the job.
one question, is it correct that AMO training pay for MSC classes is $25/day?
No
Gov’t contract boats are definitely the way to go.
Okay, then what is it for AMO MSC such as Bob Hope class and/or TAGS/TAGOs?
My understanding of why it dropped about 5yrs ago from daily wage to $100/day was that it was basically an MSC mandate and it was essentially take it or leave it. BUT I can’t find hard copy on that.
Are those the same parameters for working MSC cargo vs MSC research/hydrographic?
I think just about every single employer has defaulted to that pathetic 719K physical to save money. Not good for the crew; not good for safety, but hey, ACME Lines saved $100 so it must be the right thing to do.
MSC Cargo? Like a MSP contract or a full on charter?
TAGS/TAGOS contracts are more or less the same,TAGS is getting another bump here soon as well
cargo as in grey hull / black hull actually moving cargo (LMSR type), not a hydrographic/research type like TAGS/TAGOS.
Bob Hopes paid pretty damn good when they came out in 99ish, but TAGS/TAGOS were dogshit
Watson class COLAs now are embarrassing over the life of the contract, plus training pay is awful post 2020
My latest ‘information’ actually suggests a large bump. TAGOS/TAGS were bid tripartite for MSC. If what I was told is true, it would represent a 14-17% bump over the current Watson class contract with PCS for LDOs. I do not know what that represents for a % wage hike above what the current TAGS/TAGOS wages are for AMO LDOs. It sounds like those award announcements have been pushed to DEC, possibly.
Don’t really have an answer to that question as I honestly don’t know much about bridge contracts. I THINK they are usually for short term periods, 5yrs or less. MSC contracts (at least for TAGS/TAGOS) are about to be handed out for at least 5 years, if not closer to 10. MARAD will have to figure out soon how they are going to allocate operators for all (6) of Watson leaving MSC. (2) each in completely different areas, so time will tell
Ah right sorry, forgot about the MPF ships because they’re going away for the most part. Those contracts were historically better than TAGS/TAGOS but I believe they’ve caught up. They’re going to ROS so it’ll be the MARAD rates. I haven’t worked on those since the last contract and it was my first job after working TAGS right out of school. I was over the moon with how much I was making compared to where I was.
GOM large OSV officers commonly make 1k+ now
I remember when I first graduated I made $500 a day on OSVs.
A lot of mariners in various places are now at $1000+
Let’s have some discussion about a topic that’s important to all of us.
Where are the currently best paying maritime jobs?
Show us the money!
