2017 Bowditch Used at NYC REC?

Hi all, I just emailed the NYC REC and asked what version of Bowditch they’re using, they replied with the 2017 edition. This is neither the 1981 or 2019 version… Do these RECs just do whatever they want? Has anyone tested there recently?

Right, it’s the 2017 version. Like they said.

Probably not whatever they want but I mean it’s their REC and they’re inclined to run it how they want. What’s the issue?

The issue is there is no standardization across the RECs for which version of Bowditch is used. Despite letters like this:

Does it matter? The tables in the back remain the same.

I think the index and the tables work the same in every edition

You just loose the example problems

We have come to find in our dealings with RECs across the country that there is very little standardization across RECs when it comes to testing processes. It’s understandable for each REC to have a certain amount of autonomy to run their sector as they see fit but the lack of standardization certainly does make it more difficult for end users / customers (professional mariners).

What would be the issue with just printing and binding the PDF 1981 version? It’s in the public domain. That’s what I have for studying at home. You don’t necessarily need the actual book.
