If i take 200ton master and do the lifeboat class can i just test for AB or do i have to go to school for AB?
Also if i take 200ton master will i get bigger mate
Anyone can simply test for AB at an REC or sit through the class and get a cert. it is essentially a watered down 100ton test. 70% on ROR instead of 90%, no chart/plot.
As for 200t, you will not get a higher endorsement for mate. The mate 500/1600 are a separate set of requirements & tests.
Remember, if you don’t have the sea time over 100 tons, you will only get a master 150 / mate 200 until you have satisfied those requirements.
If you have the sea time for 200 ton master then you probably also have the sea time for at least 500 ton mate, possibly 500 ton master. But they are separate tests…

You have to take ther AB test or a course approved to substitute for it. On licenses 500 GRT and above, the license exam covers and exceeds what is required for AB, so there’s no extra tests for AB. But 200 GRT and less, there is stuff on the AB test not on the 200 ton exam, so you have to test.
