What is this thing supposed to say on it?

My new MMC was waiting in the mail for me when I came home from work. I just upgraded from 3A/E unlimited to 2 A/E unlimited. For the most part everything seems in order, but I don’t think I have any of the additional endorsements that are supposed to be there. I applied to have MED-PIC, GMDSS, and VSO added to my credential but I don’t see any mention of them in the document. I realize that these are traditionally deck endorsements but I’m a nerd and took the classes and feel that it should be reflected in my documentation. There used to be policy letters on the CG website about both the engineers with GMDSS and the DNV approved VSO classes but now everything redirects to their “improved” find a class page. Are there any other engineers out there with these endorsements and where are they supposed to be listed? Also, does anyone know where the list of DNV approved classes they are working off of went? I am 98% certain my VSO class was on it and would like some supporting paperwork when I go back to them. Thanks, Will.

There is no reason an engineer cannot get the endorsements you noted. Check to make sure they are not there (check the STCW references such as III/1 to be sure they aren’t there, GMDSS is IV/2, Med PIC is VI/4-2, and VSO is V/5 (I think, not sure on that one). If they aren’t there, contact NMC and ask why and/or to have them added.

Close… VSO is VI/5

Thanks for helping to interpreting what is on my MMC. It looks like it’s all there then, III/1; III/4; VI/1; VI/2; VI/3; VI/4; VI/5; III/3. My confusion came from the fact that on the brochure they sent along with the MMC, under the capacities and limitations section, they spelled out things like Proficient in use of Survival craft, and Tankerman assistant whereas on mine, the only things in the capacities and limitations section are Cheng OSV, Unlimited Assistant, etc and none of the other endorsement are written out in plain English. Thanks again for all your help, I can breath a bit easier now.

I just checked out the PDF that Capt Brian posted on this old thread. I received two new STCW endorsements and they must be new to the code as they aren’t listed in the PDF. Can anyone shed some light? STCW codes II/5; VI/6 are my new ones. Thanks guys.

II/5: AB; VI/6: Security Duties. (Double check me)

Thanks Jeff. I was confused because all I applied for was Mate of Towing on the Great Lakes. No STCW there. Hell, I’m a hawsepiper and got my Unlimited AB in 1987. And I have VSO already. I guess there are new international codes. Damn the UN anyway.
