Iran says hackers launched a cyberattack on a massive oil tanker bound for Galveston
GALVESTON, Texas — The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating a cyberattack targeting an oil supertanker that was traveling through the Gulf toward Galveston last month.
A specialized team of Coast Guard and FBI officials boarded the VL Prosperity in the Gulf on Aug. 21 after authorities learned that the South Korean-managed vessel’s computer network had been compromised, Coast Guard officials said.
Iranian state media reported that hackers took control of the tanker’s navigation and propulsion systems and disabled its communications for about 30 hours. U.S. officials have not publicly confirmed those details
