Video and audio Surveillance on board New Coast Guard Policy 23-05

Exactly. The downward path is smooth and easy , but latin aside the a/m environment descended upon some ,suddenly and w/o warning and we had to adapt .

But here i see the best practices taken straight from Mao teachings. I often heard Chinese say , that when you want to reduce the portion of rice by half for somebody, you must do it one grain at a time and after some time the receipient will not even notice, he is eating half of what was offered before. Think it was also mentioned in the book -“Hawaii” .
These are the sneaky ways .

You need a pretext or “event” to start the sneaky process.

Look , You ( the western societies) were laughing at us, ridiculing us , finger pointing us with scorn an derision , that we had watchman at the gangway and gangway logs and checks, that all our ports were barb wired and every ship guarded by 2-3 military guys with AK 47s. Comissars on ships , rats , snitches , party apparatchiks all eavesdropping and reporting . Why we had it ???-- to guard against american imperialsm.

How laughable it was for You. "Jesus these commies are terrible, look what they do " . And what ??? 911 happened followed by your Patriot Act , surveylance under the pretext of national security and the famous creation of all in maritime -I9PS.

Now my Dear i am laughing at You , despite, that your security measures imposed are a half cry from what i have seen on commie ships/ports and lived through it .

Surveylance cameras in corridors ??? Well i do not give a hoot what You allow them to do but i would never contemplate having intercourse with a women in such location.

From my practical experience I would suggest shower, sofa , armchair or table in master’s office but the greatest satisfaction one may achieve, is the radar panel on the bridge during the watch.

Some Canadian folks/oows tried it once a couple of years back and grounded the ferry . Too bad, they screwed the voyage planning choosing restricted waters for an actus coitus uninteraptus, as my preferable choice ,is open open ocean legs, with me eyballing the horizon as a perfect example of multitasking while romansing.

From above descrption You must expect soon migration of cameras into your saloons, bedrooms and showers. Remember - one grain at a time.

Some want to protect victims from the predators??? It is fine with me . Equip them with tasers - non lethal voltage range and with pepper gas tubes/sprays , introduce " rape alarm pushbottoms" in many locations including cabins.

Advise them to always carry mini voice recorders or even cameras for the purpose of collecting evidence . The ratting and snitching system is already in place ,with whistle blowing hot lines and as I see ,some crewing managements are proudly annoncing their "whistleblowing " policies and " whistleblowing management plans. "

No, no … this crazy ideas of mine will not pass.
Because they need to have this big eye in the sky , to watch you and You must feel they are watching You and Pegasus will make sure to verify what You have on your “handy” as you may start your sneaky romansing preludes and foreplay by using Bluetooth or other smart phone application to bother , embarass or even bully and/or intimidate/blackmail or coerce your potential victim.

Cheers

Sure, got to draw the line somewhere. Sounds like the line is when surveillance is used to protect mariners (both men and women) from assault and from false accusations of assault.

Not saying I necessary agree with the policy, be better if the companies did it on their own.

Are there requirements other then passageways?

video and audio surveillance equipment must be placed in passageways into which doors from staterooms open

This is why i dont understand all the hubub and resistance to camera on board, what are people doing in the passage ways that they’re worried about? Hiding from OT? Are there parties I’m not invited too?

The only other place we might need cameras is the laundry room, as thats where apparently there is a large issue with womens undergarments going missing.

My understanding is the legal standard is there a ‘reasonable expectation of privacy?’

There’s no reasonable expectation of privacy in a ship’s passageway. I don’t see how the slippery slope argument holds up here.

“1) Per subsection (c)(1) of reference (b), the owner4 of an applicable vessel must install video and audio surveillance equipment aboard the vessel not later than December 23, 2024, or during the next scheduled drydock, whichever date is later.“

So if you have the next drydock scheduled for 2027 you have 3+ years left without this?

I see what you are saying, but how many of these other work places are also where the employees live?

IDK for sure but I believe it’d be legal to install surveillance equipment in any public areas in, for example, an apartment building which would include hallways between apartments, same with hotels etc. As long as there’s no reasonable expectation of privacy in that area.

You don’t live in the hallway. If you’re not a creep who assaults crew members you literally have nothing to worry about.

I believe it was the Berlin Express that grounded on a reef when the second mate and female radio officer were getting to know each other on the chart table.
The comment was “ did the earth move for you too?”

No wonder we have so little privacy in this world anymore.

Great point. And who is going to sit around watching all this footage?

I have a ring doorbell at home and my friend said “ They are watching you”. Watching me do what? Walk out in My skivvies to get my paper? What the hell are they gonna do with that video? Completely useless to anyone, except a meme lord

If you need a camera to make you stop doing that maybe you don’t belong at sea.

Well that’s the point, there are a ton of old creeps who literally cannot stop themselves from doing that. Hence the cameras.

That’s my understanding… though if you were in drydock at any time since 23 December 2022, you’re back to having to get it done by 23 December 2024 since this reg became effective last December.

I guess UWILD boats just have the 2024 deadline unless they’re in that window for having to drydock. I would also imagine there are a few companies sweating emergency drydockings now too. (God help you if you had 3 years left because of your next drydock date and you blow a shaft seal next November. Not a whole bunch of time to figure out how to get this done at the lowest cost in that case).

This sort of totalitarian shit is yet another reason for Americans not own US flag vessels, or go to sea. The “cure” is worse than the disease. This comes at high social, regulatory and economic cost. When is there too much government? As this sort of Orwellian thing spreads, living in rural areas, or in Mexico (where government has not gone completely crazy) becomes more and more attractive.

The US is the only country drug testing mariners. Soon it will be the only country watching mariners movements onboard 24/7. Doesn’t that suggest government overreach?

What’s next, requiring all men between 14 and 90 to wear gps enabled, phone interconnected ,hard on alarms 24/7.

For every rape that occurs on a ship, there are thousands that occur on college campuses, and or after last call at any bar. Why the excessive fetish for addressing the tiny handful of rapes on ships while ignoring the rest?

We could more effectively address the problem by bringing back Prohibition and instituting the death penalty for drug possession. Why aren’t we doing that? Why only half measures at the margins?

College dorms have cameras in the halls. We had them at rhe academy I went to.

Excessive fetish? God forbid we try and limit the rapes, man. I guess we all fetishize getting rid of shitty people and stopping shitty people from raping others they work with.

Hard to believe more advertisers don’t want to support this place and recruit here! I just don’t get it, but maybe reasons will come to me.
