Veteran ships

The 1911 built D/S Hestmanden survived two world wars, the first as neutral a and the secon in allied service under Northraships management.
She has now done her first trip unassisted by tug since 1964:

Painted in the gray she sported during WWII and flying the Northaships flag.

One more video from the same trip:

The Wikipedia page for Hestmanden FYI:

If anybody is interested in taking over a vintage tug as a preservation project they better hurry:

OLDIES FROM THE SHOEBOX

The RMS QUEEN ELIZABETH pulling into New York with returning service men in 1945 after World War II was over. Most of these men went on to create families and brought their stories with them.

No, not the QEII but this one:

a really interesting short film “Passage to Freedom” about the Norwegian Merchant Marine during WW2. PASSAGE TO FREEDOM : a tribute to the Norwegian merchant navy [Main Title] | Imperial War Museums and a link to the registry of sailors in the war- this is my Uncle Jorgen’s page Jørgen Evensen - Krigsseilerregisteret. From there you can click on all kinds of interesting links- including a description of the sinking of his ship (M/T Elsa) by gunfire
