US Coast Guard Plans to Remove Hundreds of Navigational Buoys in Northeast -

Thanks for the link, that’s a lot of buoys and several are of significance to commercial traffic

In the spirit if not the name of DOGE?

A lot of bouys, especially the unlighted bouys could be safely eliminated.

Maybe half of the aids could be safely eliminated.

Times have changed. Today, no one stops the engine in the fog to listen for a bell bouy.

All that most of the people out on the water today do is follow the green line. They don’t know how to do anything else.

I can’t forget cruising around New England (and up to NFLD & Lab) in '91/'92. Figuring out all those wee bouys for all those odd wee channels, esp. in Maine. Charts were not yet all updated for WGS72 or WGS84, no accurate GPS offsets. Oh yes, and Selective Availability kept the accuracy limited.
Lotsa fun.
But times change…

No, just protection against those foreign rapists and murderers navigating into our neighborhoods to pick our crops and mow our lawns.
